Well, I honestly don't have alot to share because I did an excellent job of ignoring them! My DH and I came in the back door. But as we were coming across the back parking lot, I could see them and their bright colored hateful signs. The one that made me the most sick was one that said, "your pastor is a *****". That was too much.

I walked into our church, and through our "mall" area to look out the front entrance, I wanted to see how many were there. At that time there were inly about 8, which included 2 small children and one teenager. Although I did not hear them at all, thank God, I could see that the teenager was "mouthy".

Someone in my sunday school class was interviewed on his way into church by our local paper. He was asked what he thought about the whole thing. His response was, "I think it's great! If they feel the need to picket us with their hate, we must really be making satan mad and thus doing something right". I loved it.

I had such great respect for our brand new Senior Pastor, Tim. He got really passionate, and said, " God does so love everyone, no matter what Fred Phelps may think! It doesn't matter what your age, stage in life, whether you have great resources and money or if you live in poverty or below it, it doesn't matter what your GENDER is. The ground at the foot of the cross is LEVEL for EVERYONE!!!" The whole congregation applauded!! It was a fanatastic moment in the life of our church that I will never forget.

The saddest thing someone in my SS Class witnessed, was that many adults of this group were sitting in their running cars with AC, and made their children go out in the sun to hold the signs. Eventually they all were out there on the sidewalk on the opposite side of the street. The group did grow a bit, but I was told, not alot.

The coolest thing, someone drove a couple of our church busses up in front of our church, to block their view of us inside. The front entrance is large and all glass. They didn't want them to able to stare and glare. I thought that was neat.

It was an even more emotional day for me, because of something I have not had the chance to share. My sweet sweet sissy, Dede, passed away very suddenly yesterday morning at 8:11AM. I am so numb and saddened. This loss has hit me worse than any other I've been through. I screamed, I just could not believe it. I still can't. So I continue to covet your prayers for me and my family.

But I also want to express my sincerest thanks for all of you support and prayers for my church family. May you all be blessed beyond measure!!

Always,
Your friend,
Winnie

I'm glad everything worked out OK for your church services. My deepest sympathy for the loss of your loved one.

Winnie - suddenly the hate filled rantings of a lunatic don't seem to matter much. I'm so sorry for the loss of your sister. You and your family will be in my prayers.

Apparantly the convictions of many of the adults in the group change with the weather .... "Oh dear - it is too hot for me to hate fags today - you do it little Johnny"

Oh Winnie, I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your sister. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

As for your day at church, it sounds as though it went as well as it possibly could have. Congrats to everyone at your church for not fueling the fire. Maggie

Oh my Dear I am so very sorry to learn of your sister's passing. {{{{Hugs}}}} I hope you find strength in the upcoming difficult days. Know that we are here, and never dismiss us as "internet people." We are here to support you and give you the shoulders you may need.

Take care and know that you are in our thoughts.

Totally OT - is Tim still the interim pastor, or is he the senior pastor?

I've visited your church before. If you saw a crazy lady run out with her young son, that was me. It was on a Wednesday night, about a year ago. My son had lost a tooth and I didn't want him bleeding on your pews.

So sorry about your loss.:grouphug:

And, I'm glad those idiots only made themselves look bad.

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences.

But more importantly, I am so sorry for your loss.

Omg, I am so sorry for your loss ... :grouphug:

We voted this past sunday, and Tim is officially our new Senior Pastor. He is wonderful and has been such a blesing to our church. I couldn't help but giggle regarding your son. Hope all was well. and hope you come back to visit.

And to everyone, Thank you from the botto
m of my heart. You have touched me so very much with your love and caring. It means more than you can ever know this side of heaven.

Many blessings,
Winnie

:grouphug: My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. I am so so sorry for your loss. Even though I don't know you personally, I consider everyone here my friend, so if you ever need someone to talk to just pm me. Stay strong, honey.

Thought y'all might appreciate this update that the good reverend Phelps was hit with an $11 million verdict in a lawsuit today.

http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/law/10/31/funeral.protests.ap/index.html

****

"The jury first awarded $2.9 million in compensatory damages. It returned later in the afternoon with its decision to award $6 million in punitive damages for invasion of privacy and $2 million for causing emotional distress."

Just saw that on the news...

Make's me happy! :thumbsup2

Hallelujah..Praise the Lord!!!

They deserve that and much more!!!
Yes, God does answer prayer.

I am very sorry to hear of the passing of your sister.

I am very proud of your church and so glad of the verdict.

And FTR, God always answers prayer, He just does not always say yes or answer instantly;)
