UPDATE:Major Butterflies...I Got a JOB!! :)

Hi!
I am doing great! My short-term contract that was supposed to be 2 months long turned into 7 months onsite. It was really hard at first and I complained to my husband because I had a difficult time trying to manage dinner and the kids' schedule but he was SO terrific and was truly a great help with the kids (but he always is). the commute was long and costly with tolls/gas. We managed those 7 months with DH being able to leave his office early and finish the rest of his day at home so he could be here when the kids got off the bus.

Since that was a short term solution with his employer, I told my boss that I wasn't going to be able work full-time anymore after the new year and she let me work from 7-2 onsite. Enough time to put in 35 hours/week. Summer came along and I was going to pare down completely to be home for the kids as the project was basically at a lull and it just wouldn't be worth it for me to pay for sitter/daycare. My boss then asked if I could just work part time from home for 20 hours a week!

It has truly been a Godsend. It is like I prayed and prayed for 2 years every night for something like this to happen and God answered my prayers. My boss is amazing. I could not have been blessed more.

I know it is difficult out there. Alot of the interviews I went on, I think I literally sabotaged myself because I wasn't ready. After we got home from last year's summer trip, I made the commitment mentally and decided to surprise my husband. Just keep plugging away and when you go to your interview, feel like there is NOTHING for you to lose by telling them how great you are and what YOU can do for THEM. No one is going to brag for you. Be the solution that they need. That's basically it. Go for it!

Good luck! What kind of work do you do?

Thank you so much for the update. It was very uplifting and encouraging. Nine years ago I worked in data management for oncology clinical trials. I was a certified clinical research professional.

Now, I'm not sure I want to go back into the same field. My promising interview was in that field. I have a feeling my lack of focus showed.

Unfortunately I really need to get a job for financial reasons so changing my career plans right now might not be such a good idea.

Thanks again for sharing your experiences!

I just found this thread by accident, too, and am appreciative to the OP for having the guts to start it. I lost my job about 2 years ago and have been a SAHM ever since (not entirely by choice). I am a nurse and can't seem to find a job around here (I'm a relatively new nurse). So, after 2+ years of looking, I am going back to school. I am going to massage therapy school and am terrified of the interview process that I know will follow.
I have no problem selling me; I'm fantastic. :lmao: Perhaps that is my problem. Anyway, good luck everyone and thanks to the OP. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one who is going to be in this boat.

I can tell you that if I didn't find a job I was prepared to follow my heart and get into photography. I was ready to take the low paying intern/assistant positions to learn more and head in a different direction. If you're not having any luck doing what you have to do, you might have better luck doing what you want to do. Last summer, I got a gig photographing a hotel. I got the job because I was new, inexpensive, and enthusiastic about it. It didn't pay much but it was a huge help on out trip when we paid half price for our rooms! I learned alot and they loved my work.

Whatever you decide, just go for what you really want. It'll happen. Best of luck! Thanks for thinking of me. :flower3:

Haha! You're funny! And that IS fantastic! Move to Texas, there are tons of hospitals! I am surprised, I would've thought health care jobs were in high demand. Good luck!

I wish I could move. Unfortunately, I couldn't replace DH's income even if I worked overtime. And his job is here. As is DS's school. Trust me, I've considered it.
I think part of the no job thing here is that we have 9 nursing schools and all our hospitals just merged. Soooo, all those manager nurses are being forced to practice again. And, hey, who wants to hire a relatively new nurse when you can get one with 20+ years experience for the same price?
I decided to go into massage therapy mostly because I can work for ME! And I'm a great boss. I'm understanding and easy to work with and pretty darn unlikely to fire me. I think this sounds good! ;)
