Update: Kylo Ren is Coming, but When?

Looking at the big picture, I've never understood the facination with villains. And looking at the more narrow picture, I am absolutely mystified over the "love" for the guy who killed Han Solo. They intentionally made him a simpering, cowardly piece of you-know-what who is impossible to like. For the life of me I cannot imagine a child wanting to meet a mass-murderer who wipes out entire villages without an ounce of remorse nor can I comprehend the reasoning behind "family entertainment" leader Disney pushing a meet and greet of such an evil character. I mean, a little bit of comedic evil can be amusing (see Cruella d'Ville), especially when their master plan gets foiled before they do any real harm. But Kylo Ren is an over-the-top murderer who killed one of cinema's most beloved heros. I just have to scratch my head on this one. A glass of wine with dinner brings out all the outrage of people who want to keep the parks good and pure. But a meet and greet with a murderous scoundrel with a black heart is something that people want their kids to line up for. I really don't get the attraction.

Looks like our HS day is the last day for Vader. How bad is it likely to be? We have Disney Visa and plan to use that. Are we still looking at hour waits?

This swapping out Darth Vader for Kylo Ren infuriates me. Darth Vader is the icon of Star Wars. It's like taking Mickey away from the Magic Kingdom. So damn stupid. PLEASE bring him back. Praying when we're there in August there will be more Star Wars meet & greets. It drives me nuts there's no R2D2, C3PO or any of the other classic characters. They had Luke, Leia etc during SW Weekends...so why not have them here while we are all waiting on the new land??

Maybe I'm wrong, but I see a generational gap here. Adults want Vader b/c that's who we grew up with. My DD5 and DD9 are fans of Kylo Ren, Rey, BB-8, Ahsoka, and Seventh Sister. I think DD5 is going to hope she faces Seventh Sister and not Vader at the Jedi Training, which stuns me. They are marketing this all to them, not us grownups.

I'm a grown up, sort of, and I'm ecstatic I will be there Sunday to see Kylo Ren.

Fictional characters and all that
I suppose so. But your last line is the important one. If these are just fictional characters, why do people get all excited about meeting them, and why are there people saying things like "I really like Kylo Ren" and "I am thrilled to meet Kylo Ren", or "My 5 year old is a big fan of Kylo Ren"? Isn't their admiration for the fictional character just as overthought as my disdain for the fictional character? These are just two ends of the same spectrum, no? If I had a 6 year old who told me that her favorite character in the new movie was Kylo Ren and that she loved Kylo Ren, I'd be a little bit upset and concerned.

I guess it's the same question as "why do women always want the bad boy?"
There's not really an answer.

...and as one of the "nice guys" who often lost out to the "bad boy", I get what you are saying!! :thumbsup2

If she wants to be Kylo Ren when she grows up, we have a problem. If she thinks his lightsaber and costume are cool, I think we are good. I loved Vader, was Vader for halloween in kindergarten, I don't have any issue with it.

As for meeting fictional characters, we are here on a Disney message boards b/c we are Disney nerds who spend a lot of money to visit a place built on fictional characters for children to meet, right? I think that's the whole point of the place.

Kylo Ren deserves to be punched in his stupid face. And then eviscerated. And then have his clothes made fun of.

Hey, could be worse, could be Matt.

And, btw, it's pretty well known that Harrison wanted Han to die in RTOTJ. He was saying that someone had to die for the stakes to be raised, and Han was logical - no family, no one to miss him, etc. I hated it, but understood. :(

Well I guess I'm in the minority, but I'm excited to meet Kylo Ren. He's actually quite a complex character with a TON of potential (good and bad) and I can't wait to get a picture with him come May.

I shifted my days around so that I could see Vader on Saturday. I hope the lines aren't too bad with it being his last day. On the bright side, dessert party on Monday for my birthday :-)

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind having Kylo Ren for a M&G at all. But to take away Darth Vader completely from M&Gs? Totally insane.

My kid sure as hell better get Darth Vader at the Jedi training! haha

I'm gonna call him Ben.

"Hey, Ben. Nice job killing your dad. I bet you feel real powerful now, huh. What a big bad dark Jedi you are! I'm so scared. Now how about you go home and listen to The Cure while you cry over your grandfather's charred mask, you big baby!"

We are doing the dessert party Monday as well!

We are making a last minute trip up Sat. to see Vader (a couple hours drive), but unless people are locals or already there, I'm guessing it shouldn't too bad, as the official end date was made less than a week out, making it hard for people to change plans.

We were supposed to meet Vader on our last trip and showed YouTube videos to our DS - almost 2. Plans changed, and we ended up at another park.

Earlier this week, the little chatterbox goes "Ride again in elevator. Ride again in elevator! Darth Vader! Meet Darth Vader! Meet Chewbacca! Star Wars! Get light saber!" B/c Darth Vader rhymes with elevator (!?!?!).

So we are going... and probably buying a light saber...

:) riding an elevator with Vader's lightsaber :)

My 4 year old will be excited, she loves Kylo Ren and Darth Vader so she'll be excited to see either of them. I also don't understand the fascination but that's how it goes I guess. I personally think Kylo Ren is the worst. It will be interesting to see where his storyline goes, I hope he can somewhat redeem himself.

The only M&G I even do is with Darth Vader so I am very disappointed. At least I got to meet him on my last visit.
