UPDATE!! - Canadian flights NOT covered thru Disney's Trip Insurance!

Wow...very strange. I have used Travel Guard myself (I am Canadian) and after providing them with the necessary documents to support the reason for my cancellation (including an invoice for the flights), I was reimbursed the full amount of the flight. The flight originated in Toronto on Sunwing. :confused3

I phoned Travel Guard again this afternoon. They said that Disney is only allowing them to cover $200 of the $840. They supposidly did not know why.

This is the original deposit you paid on the package, the initial $200 is non-refundable. Everything else is.

DaniB, by chance were you issued a credit of any kind by the airline? I know some insurance companies will pay for coverable reasons but only less any credit issued.

This is a transportation thread and as such I'll be moving it there.

Thanks,

Knox

As stated by a PP above, it seems like the OP was given some bad information. Additional posters on the Canadian board have stated they obtained refunds thru TravelGuard for Disney trips originating in Canada.

Wouldn't surprise me in the least that Disney CMs have bad info on this. I don't understand why Disney is directly involved anyway (although I have never filed an insurance claim like this). Wouldn't you just file a claim with the insurance company and they would pay you back? That's why I didn't understand the comments about "Disney told TravelGuard to do this or that" - I didn't think Disney had any jurisdiction over how TravelGuard dealt with insurance claims, nor should they.

The reason why it's not stated in the policy is most likely because it's not really true, based on what those others have said.

One thing I keep thinking about the whole thread - wouldn't the $200 that the OP got back just be their package deposit refund from Disney (although no longer remembering any time frame that this cancellation happened in from the beginning of the thread, or if it was paid in full or what). May not be relevant but just a coincidence in the number.

I can imagine that Disney does have some influence in terms of the overall terms and conditions of the coverage as part of their negotiations with the insurance provider. I can't see that they would have any role in the handling of individual claims.

Truthfully I have no idea what the $200 was for. The lady at Travel Guard could not tell me! Isn't that insane? I already received my WDW deposit (minus the insurance cost) back from WDW months ago.

I'm waiting for another phone call back.

LOL - You know, this was moved from Theme Parks (back when I first started it, to Resorts by another mod and now transporatation.

Out of curiosity, why Transportation Knox? Honestly, I thought the Resorts board was the correct fit. This doesn't really have anything to do with transportation... It's dealing with the Insurance that you add on when booking a Resort/Meal/Ticket package.

It has to do with cancellation of airfare. Hence transportation.. / insurance thereof. It just seemed a better fit here.

Honestly, up til now I thought the airfare HAD to be booked thru Disney no exceptions.. but I've never used or bought THIS insurance, I always get my own elsewhere..

I would imagine that Knox moved it here because it deals with airfare. At least that is the assumption I'm making. It would appear that you are having an issue with getting the airfare part of your pkg refunded...that is why it has been moved here, rather than keep it in Resorts.

OP, I sent you a PM. I can still email you the copy I received my from TA if you still need it. Just lmk.
