Hi all,
For all those who read my previous post about my sisters mass on her lung.....I am so thrilled to report, my sister had her surgery today and the tumor is NOT CANCEROUS!!!!!
The surgeon was surprised, to say the least, but relieved.
She ended up having 2 incisions in her back, one under her arm pit and then one under her breast (the surgeon could not reach it through her back, unfortunately)
She did underestimate how major this surgery would be and is in a great deal of pain. The dr had to break 2 ribs to get to the tumor. OUCH! She is receiving some of her pain management via epidural. He had to remove a good deal of her lower lobe, but otherwise the surgery went really smoothly.
She will be in intensive care until tomorrow and then she will leave the hospital in 3 days (barring any complications, not expected)!!!!!!!
I haven't been able to speak with her directly, but she is apparently pretty loopy from the pain meds and very relieved to get on with healing and is asking for as much pain medicine as they will give her, LOL! One thing she did mention was that her hair was a mess and wanted a 'scrunchie' to put it up...so I know she is well on her way to recovery!!!
There are still unanswered questions regarding why she even had a tumor and concerns with her unusually elevated white blood cell count and low grade fever, hopefully I will know more soon.
My mother and I are flying down tues-sat, so I cannot wait to see her and give her a huge, but gentle, HUG!!!!!
This was really the best-case scenario and I really never dreamed it would end up being SUCH good news...Thank God!!!!
Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes! She is a tough cookie so I know she will heal very quickly. we are just absolutely elated!!
