Device found behind American Airlines counter. Very sketchy details so far.

NEWARK (WABC) -- Newark Airport's Terminal A is closed as authorities investigate a suspicious package.

Port Authority police blocked vehicular traffic from entering on both the incoming arrivals and departures levels.

Authorities are reportedly investigating a suspected bomb at the American Airlines counter.

The rest of the airport remains open at this time.

The possible device was discovered behind the counter, officials from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey told ABC News, and employees alerted Transportation Security Administration Bomb Appraisal officers, who began their investigation.

Inside a baggage room at the terminal, the TSA officers made their positive identification.

A bomb squad was en route to the scene.

Terminal A serves American, United, US Airways, Qantas, WestJet, Frontier, Continental Express and JetBlue flights.
