(Update 11/21/05) Pic on page 7! Anybody ever had a dachshund with back problems?

Heidi is just getting better and better!! Way to go, girl!! Maya is still sending doxie kisses your way!

I'd put the harness on Heidi and then have someone else offer her a treat from 3 feet away. She'll learn to move with that weird "thing" on her. :p At this point it probably just feels strange and she's not sure what to make of it. A little play time with the harness on should allay her fears.

Keep up the great work, BC, and your fur baby will be back to her old self in no time!

5 lbs weight loss as of today!!! Heidi went to physical therapy today and they weighed her. She has lost down to 30 lbs! I am so proud of her. She is doing so well, it is almost scary! However, today when I got her home I noticed her back pads were bleeding a little. I called the therapist and she did not know what could have caused it as they haven't done anything different. She said to just keep them clean and she would check her on Thursday. Hope they heal soon!

Heidi is still having physical therapy and is doing really well. They tell us to walk her around the neighborhood, but she will not leash walk!! She just sits down and looks at us. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get her moving? She is on a harness so I can tug on her a little, but it doesn't do any good! She is actually getting a little indention around her hip area. Before long, my girl will have a hourglass figure!!

(This is going to be hard on your posture...) Try holding a bit of a yummy smelly treat down near her nose level as you pull gently on her leash and tell her "Come Heidi, Come or Walk Heidi, Walk etc.!" Speak firmly. When she responds appropriately, give her the treat bit. Repeat as needed. Good luck and so glad to hear of the great improvement! :flower:

It has been 3 months now since Heidi's surgery and it is unbelievable to see her now! She runs everywhere and seems to feel so much better. I think she was uncomfortable for a longer time than we realized before we started seeing physical signs of her not being able to walk so well. Her personality is even different. She is still going to physical therapy twice a week. We have built ramps at both our doors going to the yard and she runs up and down like a young dog would. We cancelled our Disney vacation this year to stay home with her, but it is all worth it. We usually go at Christmas so I am really longing to be there, especially since she is doing so well, but I don't really want to leave her at the kennel yet. She is still very nervous around stangers, so having someone come to the house is not an option. I just wanted to thank everyone again for all the words of encouragement when I was feeling so down about her surgery. You guys are the best!

BC, such truly awesome news!! You have much to be thankful for during this season of thanksgiving. Sounds like Heidi has a new-found exuberance and it must make you smile to watch her moving so well and being so happy!

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! :sunny:
