Another interesting tidbit on the rumor mill. And basically until construction starts it is all rumor, as Eagle Pines reminds us.

I was told this weekend that 5 projects are on the table for DVC and yes Contemporary is under consideration but that until the asbestos removal is complete, no decision there. I was also told that Grand Floridian and Polynesian were not in the long range plans.

So if the Contemporary is one of the 5, what are the other 4?

Let the guessing begin. And to make it interesting, tell us why you think so.

Animal Kingdom Lodge
Contemporary
Disneyland
Hawaii
Castaway Cay (Don't tell me there are too many bugs. Don't you think there were bugs in the WDW before Disney got there? As soon as Disney shows up, the bugs head out of town). ;)

I actually don't think my fifth choice is a real alternative but wanted to list something interesting. I think Disney has been choosing future DVC resorts based on existing infastructure. They also like allowing DVC members to share in some of the cost burden of a resort. All except Hawaii would do that.

HBC

I will go way out in right field on this one. I say the other 4 will be the other four Disney Parks around the world, DLR, DLRP, TDR, and HKDL. I believe Disney has seen how popular DVC is in Florida and now feels it's time to test the water(so to speak) at the other parks. I'm probably wrong, but this is what I think and hope will happen. I want to visit all the Disney Parks around the world some day and being able to stay in DVC resorts everywhere would make that dream even sweeter. JMO

Put this on the other thread while this one was being put together...

It's very reasonable to expect DVC to continue to be build. It's really not a question of if, but where and when.

The only rumor fodder I have been given directly was last March from my guide who said DVC already had funding at that time for two projects, and had plans for 4 others (IIRC, maybe it was 3) as well. If that were accurate (which I am not suggesting at all), AKV obviously is one that was funded. CRV funded? Well some work is being done there. GCV? How much work was being done on AKV before it was even more than just another weak rumor? Could something being going on now, even early in the project, that is completely off the radar screen?

Other projects unfunded - EP, GCV, CRV, Hawaii...

It seems to me that any new DVC's will be built onsite. I don't think either HHI or VB have been successful enough to warrant additional resorts away from Disney properties.

So to me, the top three seem to be
1. AKV, obviously
2. Contemporary
3. DisneyLAND

I believe any additional DVC resorts will be free-standing resorts similar to OKW and SSR, and to me the one that makes the most sense is Eagle Pines. There is still plenty of land around WDW to build large resorts, but they've already done a lot of research on the Eagle Pines property, so that seems most logical to me.

I believe they will eventually build DVC's at GF and Poly, but I think that is quite a few years down the road. I don't know about the feasibility of two DVC's at Disneyland, but that would be a possibility, I guess.

I also don't think it's out of the question that they might convert a MOD to DVC. Or part of one. For example, they could take one part of POR and make it DVC, using the existing infrastructure to support a much higher revenue stream than they get from rooms at mod rates.

I don't see anything in Hawaii, because the tourism industry in Hawaii has been in trouble for years (although that should change with the emergence of China as an economic power). I REALLY don't see a DVC in the Caribbean or Mexico for a whole host of reasons.

A DVC cruise ship would be nice, but I don't think it would be a very attractive option for members unless there was a major revision in the points costs.

DVC @ WDW is the business model that works best for the Mouse...and that's the one I'd expect them to follow.

So if the Contemporary is one of the 5, what are the other 4?
Let the guessing begin.

Here are my picks --

Sammie's backyard?
(that way DVC would have 'a source' with the internet fans ;)

HBC's backyard?
(Gives DVC'er a northern and more southern option) :)

Doc's backyard?
(the Mouse loves Doc and wants to be closer) :goodvibes

Greenban's backyard?
(Mickey is fascinated with frogs) :lmao:

I'm not sure about ALL of the other parks, but it sounds like they might be considering DVC expansion to some. This quote is from Jim Lewis in the AKV press release from this week:

"This begins another exciting new era for Disney Vacation Club as we continue to explore future destination possibilities both domestically and internationally."

HBC's in Upper New York State, and Greenban's in NJ....so that should qualify as one domestic and one foreign, (respectively) shouldn't it?

These are interesting options, but the one I'm really looking forward to is DMnV (dianeschlicht's Minnesota Villas)...in the summer, mostly, of course! Talk about a nice "home resort!"

You know, I suspect this place is more like a "plague of toads!" Anybody who anesthetizes frogs to paint them blue can't be completely right in the head.

Be Careful Jim

Yes, but I bet there'd be a 'commando like' touring schedule of the surrounding lakes...and forget about the refillable mugs!

:teeth: :smooth:

Hmmmmmm.. Something tells me Sammie hasa litle more info. and wants to see how ridiculous the guesses are???????????

I'll play along. We need 4:

1) GCV

2) EP - all that land and the thought of a large DVC is to much for them to pass on.

3) Paris Disneyland - they want to up the international presence

4) DVC Colorado- They tried beach and well..... HH, now they will try a Ski resort (huge mistake if they do IMO, may doom all other off site projects, need a year round appeal to sell quickly)

5) My dream, a DVC HAWAII !!!!!!!!!!! Marriott has no trouble selling several Hawaii Timeshares, why not DVC? I'd add on in a BIG way if this happens.

Of course Greenban's frogs and Dianes Cabin sound great as well. I love frog legs so we'd have the dining covered. ;)

I heard DMnV accepts ALL refillable mugs...even All-Stars! Did Greenban give me bum intel...again?

Ok, guys and gals, back to the topic at hand, DVC expansion, would hate for my thread to put any of you in detention. :rotfl:

My guess would be:

1) Contemporary (assuming the asbestos removal goes as planned, this is one of the most requested places from DVCers. I've heard more than one guide say it would sell out very quickly.)

2) Eagle Pines (all that prep work done, and it has enough space to be a large stand-alone resort ala OKW and SSR.)

3) DisneyLand (also a popularly requested one that would probably get more owners from the West Coast.)

4) EuroDisney (it is the most visited place in France and would attract more European owners, especially the Brits who are a short train ride away).

No you are of course right again Jim -- She does have quite the reputation as a 'booze hound' and 'soda jerk' .. I don't think Tony steered you wrong! ;)

OK I'll play....

First a clarification...
Is AKL in the game or is out because it's already announced? I'll assume it's out of the runnning.

1- GCV- Did this get announce yet?
2- CRV- It's about time!
3- Another DisneyLAND DVC - 50 units at Disneyland is not enough!
4- EP- They won't be able to help themselves.
5- I'm torn between DLP and Hawaii
