This run was pretty hard. The first challenge was that it was sooo cold and also raining. I wore a visor but it felt like little ice hitting me, and I almost instantly got a headache. It was also dark out. I wasn’t looking at my watch much because of all of the above so I was going too fast and wasn’t really aware. I just wanted it done. I also forgot to change the intervals on my watch to 60:30 which the workout called for. All in all, this was tough, but I got it done. Mental toughness training.
After my friend had invited me to a Peloton stack. Even though I had a pretty hard run, I still wanted to do the stack. We did the 30 min Linkin Park ride live, which was awesome (and I took easy— 8.15 miles), followed by a 15 minute yoga flow focused on core, 15 min of foam rolling, and a 10 minute seasonal meditation. It all felt really nice. Well, actually the foam rolling was quite spicy, but that’s to be expected.

I got a 60 minute deep tissue massage focused on my legs. He used suction cups which I have never tried before, but they felt good.

Saturday, December 17
Steps: 15,588
Sleep: 8 h 1 m (this includes a very long “nap” I took after my run)
Planned: 5.5 miles easy
Completed: 5.5 miles, 1:22:47 (75:30)

This was a memorable run! I did it as a local fun run where you get to run through a normally drive-thru only Christmas lights show. You can do one lap or two, which is advertised as 3 or 6 miles but is off (each lap is only 2.6 miles). It starts in waves, and my start time was 4:40 am! I figured this would be good MW practice. Me, my DH, and my neighbors signed up but only me and one of the neighbors ended up going the morning of. I woke up around 3:10 to leave at 3:40 am. I slept pretty badly and less than 3 hours total. For this race, they have limited on-site parking that you have to pay extra for so we used the shuttle service from the local high school. When I’ve done this event in previous years they have had carolers on the shuttle but no more. I remember them singing Silent Night and thinking that I needed something with a little more pep at such an early hour. Once we arrived at the parking lot, we got on the shuttle and waited a little for it to fill. We arrived right on time but they started our wave about 8 minutes late— they did a safety lecture first about not going off the road because of wires, etc. It seemed like less people this year. It was pretty cold out. I didn’t do any nutrition during but did carry water and eat a banana before in the car. I noted this on the running thread but I felt a little nauseous during the race, which is a common feeling I get when I’m awake at that hour. It wasn’t that bad though. The only other thing of note is that when we got to the second lap we had only done 2.6 miles, so on one part of the course we doubled back to add some distance to make sure we’d finish with 5.5. I don’t think I can post videos here, but I have a hilarious video of me running through this beautiful light tunnel and a guy wearing shorts just sprints past me. Was that you
@DopeyBadger? Haha!
We finished, and they gave us these cutie little reindeer medals. The worst part is waiting in the cold for the shuttle back, but I’ve learned my lesson from previous years and had hot hands at the ready. All in all I was home, showered, and done with my runs for the week by 8 am! Wild.

Sunday, December 18
Steps: 3,848
Sleep: 7 h 6 m
Planned rest day.
Normally I run on Sundays but when my plan was made there was a chance I’d be graduating today so it was a planned off day. Obviously I didn’t graduate today. Womp womp.
Tried going on a hike with Dozer, Rosie, and DH. Rosie did her zoomies and yelped and hurt her foot so we had to carry her back to the car and only went about .4 miles. She can't put any weight on it.

I hope she is okay. If she still can't put weight on it tomorrow, we'll have to take her to the vet.
To celebrate the week, I watched the 30th anniversary Beauty and the Beast special. I mostly liked it although I want to talk to whomever cast Shania Twain as Mrs. Potts. The way they did it was cool, but the camera work in the opening number made me kind of dizzy and sick. The best part was Martin Short as Lumiere.

Overall, it was another good week of training. One thing that is not going well is my sleep. I am getting a lot less than normal. I am feeling pretty tired during the day and getting headaches. I have A LOT on my personal/work plate this month to try to get done before the new year and my trip, so that is all pretty stressful and frankly not fun. But I need to work hard so I can play hard(er). I have also been trying to up my water intake to at least 64 oz a day. I did well earlier in the week but not so much these past couple of days.
I also have been freaking out about my chronic foot pain. I am pretty sure based on Dr. Google that it’s Morton’s Neuroma. There are injections you can get but honestly I’m afraid to try something new this close to race day. I am also terrified that I am going to be in a lot of pain, as it does start after about 4-6 miles and has varied in intensity. It used to start earlier so I think my shoes are helping a little. Right now the plan is to just take my shoe off for a minute when it gets bad during the race. Ugh. I don’t know. It sucks because when I do my easy miles I am fine physically with that exception.
One more hard run this upcoming week!
