I'm glad this was nominated. What a sweet film!

also nominated for Best animated film along with Princess & the Frog :thumbsup2

Princess and the Frog also got 2 nominations for best song!! Almost There and Down in New Orleans!

Having 10 best picture nominees kind of cheapens it, but I am very happy to see UP get the attention it deserves. What a fantastic film! Only the second animated film to be nominated for Best Picture!

I agree. 10 is alot of nominees. Then again, it gives more good movies some reconigition.

Was Beauty and the Beast also nominated for both Best Picture and Best Animated Feature? I can't remember.

It was nominated for best picture. I'm pretty sure there wasn't an Animated Feature category yet.

I'm actually a little annoyed with it's nomination. The only reason why it was nominated was the new 10 nominee rule. There are a few other Disney animated features that should have been nominated in the past that would have deserved it a lot more than this movie.

Still haven't seen this - I heard the other night its was a cool movie - Now I'll have to get it and watch :)

Ratatouille and Wall E would definitely have made the cut if there were 10 nominees in their years. In fact, you could make an argument for almost every PIXAR film...

Just curious...which ones do you think should have been nominated from the past??? I haven't really followed nominations for all that long so I'm not sure what has and hasn't been nominated in the past. :)

I'm excited to see Up get the nominations it has. I thought it was a fantastic movie. Pixar definitely seems to have a good formula for making movies that include what I believe a good movie should...happiness, nostalgia, adventure, humor, friendship, love, sadness....it seems to tie everything in together and I think movies like that make people think, which I think is a mark for a great movie.

Well, the only other animated feature to ever be nominated was Beauty and the Beast. I'd put in the Lion King, the Hunchback of Notre Dame, Toy Story, and Monsters Inc. off the top of my head. I felt Up, while great, wasn't quite the amazing experience everyone else said it was. I thought the love story was outstanding, but I just didn't care for the rest of the plot. The kid annoyed me (was his name Russel? I honestly can't remember), some of the jokes were annoying (hearing the evil dog sound like a chipmunk was funny the first time, but not after 20 minutes of it), and I almost felt it was too sappy. I honestly couldn't enjoy the movie because I was too busy crying like a baby.

If only I could vote!! Up was fantastic! What a sweet story...

I could have sworn Wall-E was nominated last year or was it the year before? Maybe it was for effects or something...

The Academy created the Animated Feature category because "Beauty and the Beast was nominated for Best Picture. I don't think AMPAS wanted serious competition for live action films. I'm surprised that "Up" was allowed to be nominated for Best Picture.

Although I don't think it has a prayer of actually winning, I'm thrilled with the nomination too.

A beautiful story, well-told (the love story sequence without dialogue at the beginning of the movie alone deserves some sort of award), with heart and a worthwhile message about going after your dreams and second chances at having a "family" - how can that kind of movie NOT belong in the Best Film category?
