UP for a 4 Year Old?

I've read that Up is so sad. Would you take a four year old to see it?

Mine went and loved it. The sad went over his head. Really I was the one crying. Not him. It's not really talked about it's more inferred things.

Now my 6 year old walked out and he said "mom that was sad but I liked it"

It's ending is sort of bittersweet, and it's a pretty sad and definitely not very lighthearted like other Disney movies. Quite dark, in fact. That said, I think it's fine for 4 year old, because it's good for kids to get exposed to sadness and the real world at a young age, instead of Hannah Montana's "ANYONE CAN BE A STAR!" thing, which is really bad because it gives kids unrealistic expectancies, but that's OT.

Up is in no way "dark." It's sad, but it has a very happy ending.

Also, I think any of the sad parts will fly over the heads of any kid below 7 or 8.

IMO it is fine for a 4 year old. I don't think it is "dark" at all.

There are definately a few sad moments, but that happens in a lot of Disney movies like Nemo, Bambi, Toy Story 2, etc.

If you have a dog, your child will want a collar for your dog like the dog in Up!

Yes I would take a 4 year old.

It was sad but it was sweet and funny. All my kids liked it a lot (all under 7). I would agree most of the sad parts were either over my kids heads or forgotten about so quickly due to the funny parts. They laughed so hard at the dog and the bird and got so caught up in the action of the movie, and that is what they took from it. And hopefully they took some of the more grown up messages with them too.

I actually thought it was so well done. The parts that were funny were very, very funny, in my opinion. And the parts that were sad were very,very sad.

But I left with a good feeling in my heart about love, enjoying life, friendships and growing old.

I wouldn't mind going to see it again.

I voted no for only one reason. We saw the movie as a family this past weekend. The only annoyance was the 4 year old three rows in front of us who kept up a running stream of questions and comments to his oblivious mother: Why is he sad, mommy? That dog can talk - he's so funny. And on, and on and on...

I have run into adults who do that. It's not an age thing, it's a behavioral/entitlement thing.

My mother-in-law does this. And it drives me crazy! A four year old doing it wouldnt bother me because they don't know any better and are just really curious.

Yes and I did! We went and saw it last Friday and my youngest is 4. He didn't notice anything was sad, it was over his head. And quite frankly, the sad parts are very short in duration timewise. I certainly wouldn't call it "dark". My 4 year old watched the whole thing, no interuptions from him at all!
