Anybody see the soft open (in person or otherwise)?

Its clearly still being rehearsed and isnt quite ready yet.

But giving it alot of leeway I still have to say im not a fan.

The basic script just isn't very fun or funny.

It takes quite a while before they get to any birds and it just seems boring.

That being said.

I do find the animal segments to be good, at least once they practice a bit more and the animals get the routine down.

Curious what other dizzers think.

Personally loved the old version and am disapointed with the new one. Hopefully its just because its not quite ready yet and with some polish itll be great.

A video of the show was posted on here the other day. I watched it and agree with you. It wasn’t very entertaining.

The characters seem to serve no purpose other than to give kids in the audience something to get excited about.

Ya. The mix and interaction between all the characters, both costume and otherwise, seemed very odd and not cohesive at all.

Old version was simple and effective. Was a tourist who was terrified of birds who had the bird expert expose her to birds and get over her fear.
Made sense. Was quirky with lame but fun humor.

This version i'm not really sure what is going on.

We have two bird caretakers in a bird sanctuary in India I believe. And then the two characters from up join them as they are exploring the wilderness I supose?
But the interaction just isn't enjoyable.

At first I thought it was because this show is geared towards very young children. They have a spot where the up characters are doing the wilderness explorer creed and the caretakers ask you to join in. Very reminiscent of very tough to get through children programs on TV.

However two complaints with this. First. Its always cringy to ask the audience join in on a chant, slogan or whatever. The vast majority of the time the audience won't and it just feels awkward.
2nd. Its done so fast that there is no way you could have really grasped the slogan to join in anyway if you wanted to.

Also if it is for kids then why they shoe horning in the wilderness app on your phone?

Seriously though. We are on vacation. The world clearly already has an obsession and over use of technology and our cell phones. Can we just not be temped while on vacation please? Especially when our setting is supposed to be in the wild. Let us detach from the tech for a sec and not remind us that maybe we should be refreshing the my disney app for the 1000th time today for our next fast pass.

Both of these seem to be attempts at engaging with the audience. Both fall flat. Let the birds engage with the audience instead. Which they do later on with much better effect later on.

Again I find the show to be much better with the bird segments. But the forced character interaction just felt like a waste of time.

Phone app? Wow, they must have really changed something between the soft opening and the final version. We saw it on the 23rd and there was nothing phone app related in the show.

I found quite a bit of the show was the same as what they did in FoW.
I was disappointed in most all the Up related additions. It wasn't done as well as I'd had hoped and some of the syncing was off for the character dialog and the actors speaking. That timing I'm sure will get better.

I hope those who are constantly stating that X attraction need "updating" will note that just because something is "new,"
it is not necessarily an "improvement."

I look at favorite attractions as I do favorite films...
They don't need to be "remade" to be enjoyable.

Saw it Friday. I never liked the schtick of the old version and the tour guide, but do not feel this is an improvement. I would just like more birds!

I don't recall hearing anything about an app either. And I don't know the wilderness explorer creed (which they said we all know!)

:worried: Hmmm... will be there next Saturday and thought we really wanted to see this show. Had been debating going into park earlier than our plan to see 1:30 show or sticking with our 2:30 park arrival and trying to shoe horn the 5pm show in between our EE 4:15-5:15 FP window and 5:50-6:50 Safari FP. I know my family really wants pool time that day so maybe the show isn't worth giving up an hour of pool time to hurry over. AK is open till 10:30 that night, my family says "no commando" this trip and seems to understand that we may miss a few attractions to achieve that.

We saw it this week also and consider it a one and done.
I’d highly recommend giving it a skip till they get it together at least.
Or hopefully make it a bit more exciting.

Watched the video, and hopefully the show when ready is better. The video version just wasn't good. Agree that the characters really serve no purpose except IP tie ins.
We sat through 10 minutes of the old version and that also was more than enough.

Haven't seen it in person but I did catch it on YouTube. I'm not surprised at all the comments above as they mirror what our reaction was. The whole storyline is disjointed, there is far too much dialogue before the actual bird show starts, and I really don't know what the interpretive dance is all about. As for the birds, with a few minor exceptions they seem to just be a rehash of the prior show. ]

I'm very disappointed as I love Russel and Dug and UP! in general. They somehow managed to downgrade the bird show and ruin UP! at the same time. It's actually pretty impressive as I didn't think that could be done. I'm definitely hoping that they put some time into fixing the show to make it watchable.

Actually, the bold is what makes the new one watchable. They do add a few new bird elements and keep many of the old ones too. I wasn't in love with the old story line so I don't really miss it. The new one isn't a whole lot worse. I was hoping it would be better, and it's not. It's only a little bit worse. Having the bird portion fairly the same is what makes it about a wash for me.

I agree with this, specially for shows. It's always someone's first time seeing it, and it's new for them at that time. Now, sure there are some cases where an obvious improvement could be made, usually because a similar attraction at another Disney Park made it (things like the guns on Buzz Lightyear come to mind). There's always a little bit of technological improvement too, but if the effect already works well, there's no real need to change it, though I do find the usual "plusses" welcome for the most part.

This!

I posted this in another thread:

We saw the new show yesterday (4/28) and it was a disappointment. The character interaction was clunky, and something was off about the timing- there were weird gaps in the dialog. I didn’t think the characters added anything to the show, and they took valuable time away from the bird interactions. I did like the new bird demonstrations but the meat of the show has been cut by about a third in order to work in Russell and Dug. There were some awkward references to “Kevin,” the giant bird in UP that really didn’t work at all.

The new show lacks the charm and humor of the original and I really hope they can fix it.

I was thinking about stepping out of my comfort zone (bird phobia) to see this show. Like I said, I watched the soft opening on video and thought it was terrible, but it doesn’t sound like it’s gotten any better now that it’s live.

I will feign fear and hit Yak & Yeti QS for a Yak Attack while my family watches it.

I did go to this show 2 days ago and was underwhelmed. The old show was getting a little long in the tooth perhaps, but the update replaced some of the better bird elements with clunky character interactions. I understand they can rehearse and improve but it just didn't flow well and I am not sure that will get better. I will avoid this one for quite a while and If I hear it has improved be happy to try again. In the mean time it is a swing and a miss for me.

I'm so disappointed to hear these reviews. I enjoyed the show the way it was, I thought it was funny and educational. We will see the new show, but it's not sounding good.
