After 2 trips to UOR (Thanksgiving & Spring Break), we're headed to SoCal this summer and are doing 3 days 2 nights at Disneyland. We did several WDW trips utilizing fastpass but this will be the first time using genie+.

I haven't been to Disneyland in thirty years, and I think dining reservations open up for me Friday so I'm going to just take some shots in the dark. The thing that is giving me the most anxiety is that I have made park reservations, bought genie+, and downloaded the app but I won't even know what rides I will get until the day of. I'm not an EP guy when we go to UOR, but considering this is probably one and done I would pony up right away for at least one day of UOR style EP.

It's wild to spend so much money on a vacation to be at the mercy of an app.

I completely agree with you, but I think it will be ok. I am a super big Universal Fan Girl and we were also there for Spring Break and had a great time. I do not like the idea of Genie plus. I was decent at Fastpass plus, and loved Maxpass (DL). We are likely doing a road trip this summer and DL would be almost half way. We will likely stop there for a day or two. We will get Genie plus if We go. Universal EP is the gold standard, but it took us a lot of years before we tried it. Somehow we survived and still enjoyed the parks. Usually 3 nights and 4 days it’s what we did for DL, 2 nights and 3 days was a bare minimum so I’m having a hard time considering only one full day. It’s only been since November 2019 that we were last there. We had just started APs that September and we’re supposed to go March 2020 for Spring Break when the world shut down right before our trip:( Going back will be bittersweet, especially since Universal was/is the same lovely place it was before and after the pandemic.

Genie+ is supposedly functioning better at Disneyland than Walt Disney World. I have used it WDW but not DLR yet. I didn't hate it. It's just a different variation of FP+. We had used Maxpass at DLR before and liked it. I just made our ADRs for Disneyland last week. I did it right when they opened each day. Availability was really good. I got everything I wanted. I rarely get everything I want at WDW, even with booking right when available and staying onsite. I think the no 60+10 days/onsite advantage makes it a little more equitable for everyone.
