Unversity of Phoneix

I do not go there, but I did research it when looking for schools. It really has a bad reputation. That reputation would be a stigma on the degree you get. it is also very expensive. So many brick & mortar schools now have online programs that are so much cheaper that I do not understand why people still consider UoP. This girl in one of my classes said a class at UoP would cost her $2000 compared to the $585 a class at my current school.

Our firm will not interview any applicants who have a degree from The University of Phoenix. I do not recommend them. There are lots of better, less expensive choices out there.

Maybe their admission requirements aren't so stringent. :confused3

I work for a Fortune 100 company that will reimburse some tuition for University of Phoenix classes up to a certain level based on completion. It's too expensive IMO, and a lot of the work is done in groups, so if you have less motivated team mates, you will have to pick up the slack.

Why University of Phoenix has such a bad rep, I have no clue. I took several online grad classes there. They were, by far, the hardest classes I ever took, and I learned so much.

Just in case anyone is wondering, the other schools I have attended aren't necessarily "slouch" schools either. My undergrad is from Temple University. I've taken grad classes at Rutgers, Univ. of Massachusetts, & Drexel. NONE of them demanded as much from me as the 3 classes I took at Univ. of Phoenix did.

I'm not sure they have admission requirements.

As another poster said, there are lots of good traditional universities with online programs. I would highly recommend looking at one of those.

They have been investigated repeatedly by the SEC http://www.nextstudent.com/student-loan-blog/blogs/sample_weblog/archive/2009/10/29/24092.aspx

and other federal regulators.

Our local (huge and excellent) community college district has some of the lowest tuition in the nation, and pretty much anyone can get in. Yet, the University of Phoenix persuades kids to take out huge student loans to get an associates degree with them. I heard one girl on the radio say they told her she was filling out "financial aid" forms when in fact they were loan forms.

Well, there you go. ;)

My DH took a couple of classes there as part of his degree (that he'll have in May), and we were both SHOCKED at how expensive it was.

Have you looked into Kaplan University...I did a little bit of research and it looks like they are Regionally Accredited and backed by the US Dept of Education...I am not sure about Phoenix though.

Actually just looked at Phoenix and they are accredited regionally as well...this surprises me as it seems as though this discussion leads me to believe they they are a diploma mill

Thanks everyone. It sounds like any other college it has it's good and bad. It's very high compared to other places:scared1::scared1:

Very expensive....very bad reputation. As a HR manager, I will state that a degree from there is not well accepted.
