Unusual Concierge Requests

Unfortunately decorations is not an option on the website for our cruise (Dec 18 HOliday cruise). I just checked. Will try to call again later and talk to someone else. Worst case, we will do it ourselves when we get there....

I guess the CFDC is a hard request. I have requested it on Princess and RCCL and never had a problem but I guess I can bring it along too. Actually, I can really do everything the concierge should be able to do for me too (like make excursion ressies/changes). But in that case, what is the point of a concierge in the first place?

Were you asking about Christmas decorations for you cabin? If so then that's a whole 'nother story than what others are referring to when directing you to the website.
I've seen in the past some Christmas things offered in the stateroom gifts sections on the website, but I don't remember decorations being an option just floral items and gifts.

Shoreside concierge will make/change excursion and other reservations for you. Who did you talk to?

However, I will say, give me a midship Cat 3/T suite on the Magic/Wonder any day over the Cat Ts on the Dream. The Dream suites we felt were cramped. Sure, the bathrooms were nicer, but the layout on the classic ships is much better.

Yes! So glad to read this! We just booked our Midship Cat 3 Wonder today!

As others have suggested, I would definately write DCL a letter to let them know of the service you didn't receive as a concierge guest. There's no excuse for your concierge to not check in with you daily and to not have the daily treats delivered. I also hope that you noted the lack of service on your comment card and dropped it off before leaving the ship.
Alcoholic drinks are only complimentary at the 2 receptions on the Magic/Wonder.

Yes, please do write them! For all of us cruising after you ;) I wonder if somehow your stateroom didn't get assigned to anyone and somehow you were skipped?? Seems very strange that you were not checked on at all.

How do we tip the concierge -- same as a steward, with tip card and envelope?
Bob

Yes, I really need clarification on this too. I read stories like "Concierge surprised us with Mickey Bars", "we asked for berries and he brought them", conc brought us coffee every morning."

Do we tip them at all these times as if it were room service? Or do we not tip them at all until the end of cruise?

We and some friends of ours (not staying in conceirge) were bumped to the front of the line when tendering in Grand Cayman.:thumbsup2

As for the pop...we requested additional pop midway through our cruise and then charge for it. When I asked Lynda about it she said refills of cans cost. Ouch!!! Didn't know that and won't make that mistake again!!!

Yes. Tip at end of cruise just like others On Dream Class cocierge takes care of tips, and some feel it's awkward having the cocierge charge their own tips. So some go to guest services, if charging (not cash), and do it themselves.

Ok, thanks. To clarify even further: if we order room service meals, we still do not tip at that time because that is handled by Concierge too? Non-suites on Wonder tip room service, right? But I would not? OR is room service to a suite brought by 'regular' room service staff member, who would not get the tip at end of cruise?

Room service of any kind should be compensated when delivered, especially if staying in suite, IMHO. Every one, even those in non suites, should tip room service deliveries as those CM's are not part of the shared tip pools you tip at end of cruise. Customary, is at least a few dollars, more if you get an entire meal. Most say $2 - $ 4 a plate as an example. Plus there are reports they occasionally keep track of this , and in theory the more you tip the faster/better service you receive. :confused3 Most take cash for room service tips. They used to bring a slip , and you could add tip to slip and sign. That tip only would be added to your on board account, but nowadays that slip delivery seems random at best. I'm sure if you asked for one, to pay tip I'm sure they would produce one, just ask for one when ordering is my suggestion, and that's my plan.

Room service is brought by the regular room service people. So you tip them normally. The concierge does not bring the meals to your room. The advantage in concierge is that you are able to order room service items from the kitchen that other people are not, basically full breakfast and full menus from the restaurants. If you are in the royal you can order Palo as well.

Namsupak and Bear, thank you both for your patient answers. That clears it up for me!

Namsupak, first of all: LOVE your native land! We've been there 5 years in a row now. Such a lovely place and lovely people!

i dont think your request for a Thai server is strange at all. I think you and your server would both enjoy meeting. I had also considered requesting a chinese, if there is one. Not so much for us, but because I think the server would get a kick out of speaking with my mandarin speaking blond toddler. The locals here love to hear him speak their language. Anyone who has lived as a foreigner in a strange land knows that there is a certain kinship and understanding between others who have done/ are doing the same thing.

Is there a microwave oven in the concierge lounge? DH loves popcorn, but the stuff they sell by the shows just doesnt do it. I was wondering if we brought the Orville bags if they would pop it for him?

Would it be too much to ask concierge to go to the late night dessert buffet and make me a plate and bring it back to my room for me??? LOL I had dreams about this buffet last night, I think because I had read a thread about it yesterday. I just know my kids won't make it that late though.

You know, at first I was going to say that request would have to STAY in your dreams....but knowing some of the concierge team like I have, they just might actually do it! We've had some pretty awesome teams.

Just had to pipe in about our concierge experience on the Magic. We had a Cat 2 and a Cat 3. For popcorn, there is actually a microwave in the room(at least there was one when we went), however, you just have to let them know you would like some and it arrives nice and hot. We had a sick child for one night (a cold brewing) and we had a movie night and they brought us movies, popcorn, candy and anything else.

Most unusual---on our last night of a 7 night, we requested food from all the restaurants. Including Palo. We called room service and asked them if that was okay and what we wanted to do. Keep in mind there were 9 of us and we had a huge dining table in the room. So, the woman on the phone just thought that was the best idea anyone has ever done and started suggesting items. The staff had more fun with it then we could've imagined. We had just about every item they could send up from each restaurant-appetizers, main course and dessert. Including delivery of our favorite drink of the day that we liked during that week. We had a procession of servers at one point and they were just hysterical. AND no worries, we tipped them all very nicely each time they made a delivery (it took 4 carts and several hand deliveries).

As far as drinks (sodas and water), we drank both and there was always an endless supply in our room. Treats twice a day. By our third day they would ask what we liked and it was there. Concierge contact several times a day. It rained a few days and they were right there with the umbrellas. As far as a personal meet and greet with the characters, the last night they do have something exclusive in the club before the final show for some people. We were invited our first cruise. The second cruise, it was cancelled but they made it special anyway with lithographs signed.

We missed the gathering for concierge when we boarded, so they came to our room after the drill and asked us what we would like. That service to me is why I go with Disney. They go above and beyond.

Is it a bit beyond the norm? Sure...but, based on our experience, I know they would gladly do it or arrange for someone to do it for you! Especially if you put the request in early so they have time to make arrangments. What a great idea!

When does a Concierge CM become a Butler?

as MartDM said, pre ordering some desert's is one thing, sending them to get you specific food from another area on the ship is beyond their job specification IMO.
They will probably do it, and you will also put the other concierge Guest's in a wait line for other such request's as they will not want to disappoint.

happy hour - What is happy hour??? when is happy hour??? and how much are drinks durning happy hour??? :)

There is an approximate hour before each dinner seating in the concierge lounge that includes your alcoholic beverages. This is on the Dream and Fantasy only
