Unused Ticket Options

So I jumped the gun and bought my husband a 10 day park hopper ticket from UT back in July of 2018 before the date based pricing went into effect. We were planning on a fall or winter 2019 trip, but surprise! I’m pregnant and due October 1st. DH probably won’t have enough vacation days built up to take a trip before then

So what are my options with the ticket? My parents and I will probably make a trip in June, but we all have APs. DH really doesn’t go enough to have an AP, and from what I understand a ticket can only be upgraded to an AP in person. I could transfer it to me and then use it towards my AP renewal, but my AP doesn’t expire until November 30th so the earliest I can renew is October 1st, right? Which obviously won’t work :scared: So is the value completely lost if it’s not used or upgraded before Dec 31st?

I tried reading the ticket question sticky, but not sure how much of that applies to third party tickets.

Valued won't change. See the Ticket thread, pinned above, especially "VALUE of EXPIRED TICKETS:
Tickets currently being sold will expire if not first-used on or before Dec. 31, 2019.

However, if this ticket is never used by a guest and allowed to expire,
the purchase price of the ticket is not "lost" to the guest.
The unused and expired ticket can be turned in at WDW and its original purchase price can be applied to the purchase of a new ticket."
third party tickets from authorized resellers are actual WDW tickets, so any information that applies to direct purchase tickets applies to UCT tickets.

This actually makes me really happy! Ours came today, and the fact the from UCT they were only refundable for 90 days made me nervous in case anything happened. I also didn't know what to expect ticket wise, since I've never ordered from UCT before.

Great, thank you. I did see this section and wasn’t sure if it applied to UCT tickets. As far as “turning in” the old ticket, can they just scan our Magic Bands to look it up? Or do I need the original email from UCT with the eTicket?

1. It does.
2. Yes, assuming that you add those tickets to your MDX account.
Once you do that, they will appear in your MDX and can be used or upgraded/traded-in.
3. It doesn't hurt to have that. (You can never have "too much" information... just in case.)
