I have an unused 1-day park pass. Can I apply this towards the purchase of a multiday pass?

Yes you can. You can do it at the concierge desk of any resort or at the ticket windows of any park or Downtown Disney

Where in Downtown Disney - at Guest Services? The original ticket was $138. Will the full amount be applied to a multiday pass?

Use the ticket first.

If you use the ticket first, the current gate price will be applied. If you don't use it first, only the price you paid for it will be applied to the new ticket.

I don't understand. It's only a one-day ticket. How can I use it and then apply the price to a longer, multiday pass?

Before the day is out. More correctly, a standard post-2004 ticket (a Magic Your Way ticket) can be upgraded as late as 13 days after you originally used it. The quickest way to upgrade it after using it is to report the the Guest Relations booth just inside the park; City Hall at Magic Kingdom)

A pre-2005 ticket can only be traded in at roughly the price you paid and before you use it.

If the ticket had the hopping privilege and you waited until after you entered the second park to upgrade it, then the ticket you upgrade to must have the hopping option to which $55. of the value would be applied. If you upgraded to a (multi-day) non-hopper in the first park, then you would not be able to use it to enter the second park that day without doing another upgrade to add hopping.

Tickets defaced with something like "COMP" may not be upgraded or traded in.
