Unused FP+s, do I have to tap in?

We have a FP+ for First Time in Forever Show that our HS Touring Plan says we don't need, and is having us see the show at a different time. There isn't really another FP+ available that will help our plan for the day, so I guess I'm just keeping the one I have. My understanding was I could just allow that FP+ to expire and it would still be marked as "complete" - then once all 3 are complete I can start looking for a 4th.

However, I think I've read a couple of people say that they planned to just let it "expire" but it didn't go away from their FP+ list, so they had to physically go to the attraction and tap in.

So do I need to plan on running over to the Frozen Show show and tapping all our Magicbands in during our FP+ time? Or were the reports I read just isolated incidents and I will most likely be fine letting them expire on their own?

I should add that the Frozen Show FP+ is #2 of 3 for the day, so tapping in won't help me start getting FP #4 any sooner. If I tap in it will just be so I can get #4 after using #3. Hopefully that makes sense.

Sorry not to be more helpful but on our recent trip we found that it wasn’t always one or the other. Sometimes it expired and we were fine, but a couple of times we had to tap in or we couldn’t start getting repeat tier one FPS.

I don’t know if it is a glitch or a design in the system (I didn’t see a pattern).

I would plan on tapping in if you are worried about it. Of course, you can always modify it to something near wherever you are, and tap in there. Muppets and Little Mermaid are always available.

Also experienced this glitch with a party member where she must have forgotten to tap into her fp. Then for the 4th fast pass the system said she hadnt used her first 3 yet.

I'm not sure, but can you modify your fastpass and change it to something else?

I guess when I get into the park I could try that - hadn't thought of that!

That actually is really helpful. Helps me to know what to expect.

Ok, so it's looking like I need to tap in! Fortunately, I have very few "I'm not even gonna use this" FPs.

Just want to add that tapping in will allow you to try to modify your 3rd FP to an earlier time, which will then allow you to get your 4th FP sooner, for what it's worth.

Unless you're really far from the attraction, I'd just take the time to tap in.

If its your 3rd FP definitely tap in at the beginning of your window if you can so you can start looking for a 4th right away.
If some of your party is going to the show IMHO its best to have everyone tap in just in case.
If its a 1st or 2nd FP and nobody is going I would not bother to tap in as the show windows aren't the full hour and it will expire quicker than a typical FP.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but if you don't need the FP, can't you just delete it? Get something else (or don't if you don't need/want to)?

As others have mentioned, why not either delete it, or try to modify it (by choosing a different FP)?. Seems like a waste of time running over to the attraction just to tap in, not to mention that fact that if you delete or modify, it opens it up so that someone else can use it, instead of just wasting it.

If they can modify this to something the entire party will enjoy then I agree they should do this now.

Otherwise - unfortunately the way the FP+ system is set up sometimes its better to let a FP+ go unused or tap in and not ride in order to get to that 4th FP+ so you can either use it at another park or get another tier 1 FP+ at the same park.

The downside is that someone else can't grab that FP+ time the upside is that the standby line will benefit.

The problem with just deleting it in a tiered park, is until you use all 3 original FPs, you can't get another tier 1 FP. In MK, that would work as there are no tiers, but not in the other 3 parks.
Modifying it to a ride close to where you are and a time close, so you can tap and go would be the best option.
If you let the FP expire, it should disappear, but doesn't always.

You have to use up the 3 FPs that are constrained by any "Tier 1/Tier 2" rules before you can choose a 4th. If you only pick 2 FPs you'll have to get a 3rd FP while you're in the park that's on the Tier 2 list (if applicable) just like you do when you make FPs from home. Your best bet is to get all 3 FPs in advance, have their return times be fairly early in the day, either use them or let them expire (I have now learned it's best to tap in rather than "let them expire"... and at that point you can try getting whatever FPs you want.

In my case, fortunately, I'm not going to have to go very far out of my way to tap in. If I was going to have to run halfway across the park then yes, I would change it to another "throw away" FP was that closer to my route.

Just clarifying, you don't have to use all 3 initial FPs in one park before you can make FPs in a 2nd park. You can just make one or two ahead of time, use those and then make a 2nd and/or 3rd for a different park. It's also a good way to get around tiers when park hopping. But yes, if going for a second tier 1 in the same park, you do need to use/let expire all 3.
