I am wondering if the kids don't use all thier Disney dollars (ha ha). Can I cash them in before we leave Disney? Then the cash can go back in their banks at home.

Curious to know this too. It's been a long time, I didn't think that you could cash them back in. If you have a Disney store near you, they could spend the rest of their money at a later time.

With your original receipt you should be able to cash them back in at the location you purchased them from. However a little trick that we do is always buy $10's - then when we buy something, no matter how small we use a new one until they are gone because you get your change in regular US currency. Now I have actually bought $1's this time because they are "potty incentives" for DD. But the largest denomination works the best for us usually.

Just curious. What’s your reasoning for using 10’s everytime? If you’re looking to get regular cash as soon as you can, why get Disney Dollars in the first place? Is it a kid reward concept that you originally buy the Disney Dollars? Or some other angle I’m missing that may be helpful?

I asked this question at the Disney Store in our mall just two weeks ago when I was buying some. They told me that they are not refundable and you can not cash them in if they are not used.

I wonder also if you can do it in the parks???

Hmmmm.....maybe the policy has changed, in the past it was their policy that they could be returned with the original purchase receipt, or maybe that particular CM did not know.

Anyway - the reason for using $10's is I use Disney Dollars as a way of saving for vacation. Once I'm there spending them I don't necessarily want to come back with them. This way I don't have to worry about it. If I come back with money it usually goes right into savings for the next trip BUT it doesn't have to if something comes up I want to use it on. If it's still in disney dollars then I don't have a choice but to save it for the next trip because I don't want to have to deal with cashing them back in. It still is saving for strictly Disney because I can't use it to run through McDonalds - but once I'm there that money has been budgeted for Disney and when it's gone it's gone whether as Disney Dollars of regular dollars.

A few years ago, I traded them in at Guest Services at AK. Didn't need a receipt. They gave me good old american cash.

I gave trips to WDW last year to my elder son, GD, younger son, and D-I-L. I included a packet of Disney dollars in each of their Christmas bags. Consequently, I round up buying eight hundred dollars in Disney dollars. The manager at the Disney Store is the one that waited on me and she made a point of asking if I was sure I wanted that many, because they would not be allowed to take them back if we didn't spend them at WDW. When I insisted, she said 'well just make sure you cash in any that are leftover while you are down there or you'll be stuck with them'. My family used them all, so I don't know if the parks or resorts would have cashed them in for us, but assume they would.

We had $850 disney dollars last year that I cashed in from my Disney Visa rewards.

I actually ended up spending only $400 of them on DH's AP and food we bought in the park for 5 days.

I had $450 left over.

I went 2 seperate days to the Guest Relations center on Main street and got them ALL cashed in for "real" dollars. No receit needed and I just told them that we cashed in too many dollars (I had gotten the disney dollars cashed at the Disney store before we left). No questions and they did it with no problems.

Great thanks. I was going to go take the kids today to get some Disney dollars. But DD woke up sick today. Poor girl.

Thanks for the info. I am saving Disney Dollars for this trip in January..so I will make sure to use them up or cash them in at the parks! I guess the CM I dealt with at the Disney Store didn't know what she was talking about.

Thanks! :earsgirl:

okay all -

so how long does it actually take to transfer disney rewards to disney dollars via Chase? We leave in about 6-7wks and totally forgot about them. I don't want to transfer them unless we are sure we are going to get them in time.

Suzanne: You can go to Guest Services at DTD and get the Reward Card right there. They will let you use a phone to contact Chase and Chase will put your reward dollars on that card right then. If you want to order early, you can either order the card on-line or by phone. I'm not sure how long it takes to get the card in the mail -- six weeks might cut it close. We always do the DTD thing (when I need a new card) because you're sure to get every last reward dollar you're entitled to receive on the card. If you order early, you might miss the last billing period. If you already have a reward card, you can just call Chase and have them apply the reward dollars. Note that the card has an expiration date. I will call from Disney next month when we're there. My card expires at the end of this year and I don't want to risk having to spend my dollars at a Disney store instead of at WDW!

I have a similiar question. My DD has Disney Dollars (from gifts from the last 6 months from various family) - a pretty good qty and I was worried about what if she didn't spenf them all (as I don't know when we'll be able to go back again and there are no Disney Stores here). Hers are almost all ones, but i she bought say a $10 toy could she give the cashier twenty Disney One Dollar bills to get change? Or will the cashier only take the minimum required to pay for the purchase?

do Disney dollars expire?? I was thinking of buying some for our 2008 trip..

Disney dollars never expire.

As far as paying over with $1's - I don't think they would do that since you'd basically just be cashing them in and I'm pretty sure the Disney Store won't cash them in without a receipt - and some reports say they won't with the receipt so I wouldn't count on it.
