My DD6 got a lot of toys for Christmas. I am starting to have "toy rage" about the 15+ minutes per toy I spend untwisting the ties to get the pieces loose...especially the Littlest Pet Shop sets.

Does anyone else have a problem with the way things are packaged these days?

LOL - I thought this thread was going to be about the psychology behind nightmares. :rotfl2:

I agree - packaging today is ridiculous. Not only are those twisty things just crazy, the amount of packaging is disturbing. I was opening a DVD set my DD received and was blown away by how much packaging is involved for such a small item.

two words people ~

wire cutters!

I brought my sister a nice handbag and matching purse, when the gift was opened it turned out they hadn't removed the security tag!!!!!!!!!!! Took a while to break each of the metal strands on it!

you can thank US Customs. Overseas packagers go way overboard on the stuff so there are absolutely NO chance of anything getting loose and causing the entire shipment to be refused at the border.

We work in the industry here, so anytime we open something (hello Chuck the hermetically sealed Truck!) we just yell "Redundant Packaging!" and chop it open with kitchen shears.

Here's a tip that worked for us when our kids were younger and got lots of packaged toys for Christmas. Before you wrap the toys, remove all of the twisty ties, tape and other parent-torture devices. Put in batteries and make sure it works. Put the toy loosely back into the package and wrap it. This will save you having to do it on Christmas morning when you have an impatient child jumping up and down next to you. And you'll do it gradually as you buy and wrap the toys instead of all at once. You can also ask close relatives to do the same when wrapping toys for your kids. My parents, sister and brother got into the habit of untwisting before wrapping and it saved us much drama and trauma on Christmas and birthdays!

Like this?!!!

Amazon used to have packaging that you could select that didn't have all the extra stuff. I think I read a thread last year where someone was complaining that they bought it as a gift and didn't feel that it looked like a gift because all that extra stuff was missing. I don't know if Amazon still does that or not. :confused3
