Untimely Maintenance

As my luck would have it, today is the morning that the seven month window for booking my vacation opens. Of course, I want to try and get Poly but will take others as a back up. What happens? Today, is also the day that Member Services has maintenance going on until 9 AM EST. Grrr. 9 AM, really?

Just keep at it, and call MS at 9 am in case the site maintenance goes late.

I've got the number cued up on my iPhone, ready to go. 17 minutes and I'm dialing and clicking. Wrote a one pager with the important numbers so I don't have to look anything up.

I was in for a minute. It looked like I had it. It even borrowed the points but then... System down and worse, phone reservations down until 10.

Can't get into the online booking engine yet either, but I did get into the RAT. As of a moment ago, the Poly was showing both lake view and standard view studios as available. Good luck to those who hope to get one!

Me too. Very frustrating.

Really? They just had to do maintenance 7 months before Columbus Day weekend, one of the highest demand periods?

Good luck! I had to wait list Oct5-7 at seven months, and it came through two days later. So don't give up hope of you have to wait list. I haven been watching and nights are opening and closing then opening yet again for Poly in October.

Got it! Five nights at Poly. While I was trying to book it online, I reached Angie in member services. I let her lock it in. Awesome customer service.

Good. Happy for you. :)

Having worked in IT for a lot of years, I doubt this was planned. This was likely a case of "we can take it down and fix it in a controlled fashion now, or we risk losing data later"

Disney IT has never impressed me with their ability to build scalable, redundant, fast systems. Even their user interface design feels like it was built by people who have never used a website in their lives.

They've had the notice up for several days anyway about this. It was planned.

It was planned.

I guess all the new IT people that are the cause of the lawsuit filled against Disney had no idea it was Columbus day :P

:badpc: That is exactly how I feel this morning about the MS website. It is our 7 month mark and we needed to cancel a booking and rebook on the dot at 8:00 ET to get the Poly. We started the cancel process at 7:40 AM. I am so sick of the alert - Site Down for Maintenance. And then the remark at sign in tells us the maintenance won't start until March 14 around 11:00 PM or something like that. :charac2: Sorry I just had to get that whining out of my system. It looks like we will be calling MS at 9:00 am. Hopefully they can get into the system if we can't before. PVB is gone so hopefully something else will be available as we finally were able to cancel our reservation.

Edit: Here is the error we are getting:

Service Unavailable

We're sorry. The services required to complete your transaction are unavailable. Please try again in a few moments.

We called MS as the system was working intermittently, I got the AKV reservation cancelled, but could never get the SSR one booked. Neither could DH. So we called MS and the CM booked SSR which is fine as we like it. But was disappointed that we didn't have a shot at getting PVB. We waitlisted that resort, since we only have three nights maybe we have a chance to get it.

Boy it really is getting harder to book at the 7 month mark for October. We were happy with our home resort, but since we have split our stay into two parts because of a 7 day cruise between the segments we thought it would be fun to have a second resort in a different locale. SSR will give us a better opportunities to explore the changes at DS and dine at new restaurant.

The outage was planned but supposed to end at 8 AM. Unfortunately, the system only came up briefly after 8 before going down again until after 9.

Been happening since the system came back up after "scheduled maintenance" Wednesday. I've been intermittently getting the following barrage of errors every morning at 8AM since Wednesday:
  1. Site Down for Maintenance
  2. Server Error
  3. Service Unavailable
  4. Unexpected Error
  5. We are working on it
  6. Dino - Sorry About that (unresolved error with your account)
  7. Please contact us about your membership
  8. HTTP 500 (usually displayed as a blank page or generic browser error)
  9. Page Expired
In my case, after multiple failed attempts at booking a reservation online, the nights were no longer available by the time I called MS (which is unlikely IMO given no one else should have been able to book them online and I was first in line to call at 9AM). A MS supervisor confirmed these nights were in fact available despite showing unavailable online and was able to book them for me. I'm guessing my failed online attempts had the rooms temporarily held despite being over 20 minutes since I had attemempted them online. The MS Supervisor confirmed they have been getting lots of reports of people calling saying they were getting errors on the website and their IT is aware of the issues, although no ETA on when they would be fixed. She also said MS is having issues with their systems as well.
