Unsuccessful ROTR - Changing Reservation Same Day

I searched but could not find this topic discussed. In my scenario, we have HS reserved for the day. If I'm unable to grab a ROTR boarding group at 7am, can I switch my park reservation to MK, AK or EP at, say, 7:30am? Since I do not have to tap in to HS in order to try for a ROTR boarding group, I'm thinking this is allowable provided there are other park reservations still available.

Has anyone tried this yet, especially with new capacity limits eased?

Provided there are park reservation available at other parks, then yes, you can change your reservation from DHS to another park. There isn't a "change" function though. You have to cancel the existing reservation and book a new one, which is not without risk. You could (even if unlikely) wind up with no park reservation at all for the day.

Yes, you may attempt to switch any park reservation at any time before you tap into a park. As @Fangorn shared though, you will need to cancel your original reservation in order to try and pick up a different park reservation. If you cancel park 1 and find nothing else is available, you may not be able to go back and grab your original reservation as it may already have been picked up by another guest.

Also, I'm guessing you're aware of this but just clarifying, if you have a DHS park reservation and drop it to pick up a different park, you will not be eligible to try for a 1 PM BG as you will no longer hold a DHS park reservation.

Another thing that stinks about the reservation system.

As mentioned above, you need to see if there are passes available for other parks, then cancel your park passes and hope the others are still available.
To try for the 1 pm RoTR boarding groups you either need to be in the park or have tapped into HS earlier in the day.
God luck.

Disney should put some kind of advance fast pass reservation system in place for RotR so guests are not playing roulette at 7am and then starting their day disappointed. At least if you know its booked well before you decide go to the park, your expectations are tempered before you go.

Yep. Even just one day would work.

RoTR is tooooough to get!
We had a Monday HS day and a Friday HS day. I was fast at 7am on Monday and no boarding groups left. On Friday, I was locked-in and ultra quick and I got boarding group 68. How do people get boarding groups so fast? The only way I could have possibly gone any faster is with a freakin' time machine!
Anyway, the the ride went down multiple times during the day. From 1-3pm it was stuck on boarding group 38. We just made it with 70 being the last called. Whew!

RotR stresses me out already. We rode it once on opening day, and of course we'd like to ride it on our upcoming trip in August. It's hard not to let the thought of not getting a boarding group ruin my day, especially walking past the ride and knowing there's no chance we're getting on. It's such an unnecessary stress for something that is supposed to be fun.

We were successful in getting a BG 2 out of 2 days. We used an Apple Watch with a second hand. At exactly 7am we refreshed the second “join screen” (the one after the At-At screen on the home page). Then hit “join” and “join” lightning fast.

Pledging alligence to the dark side increases your chances. o_O
Seriously, you have about 4 secs these days so need to be fast on the taps.

That happened to me on Friday, was not able to get a reservation at 7 so decided to not go into the park until around 12 in case I was able to get one for the afternoon which might result in my family riding in the evening. We were able to snag Boarding #135 and was able to ride at 6:45 PM.

I think most people have said they would rather have the virtual lottery knowing exactly what time to be in the ride instead of sitting in a que all day long to get on the ride. I think you have to be positive and know that there is a chance you may not get this attraction and not set all your hopes and dreams off one ride. A boarding pass does not guarantee you will get to ride the attraction, there are times the ride will break down.

As for my family we made sure to book 3 days in HS to give us a better chance to get on RotR.

Yup, what boarding pass you get is dicey as well. The bigger the number the better your chance of maybe not getting to ride it due to it breaking down.

Disneyland managed to get through like 300 boarding groups in a day recently. Not sure why Disney World couldn't do the same.
Probably because of the number of times it breaks down. We rode it earlier this week and it broke down 4 times before my group was called and it broke down for 20 minutes when I was in one of the pre-shows.

Is the bolded part true? I thought you had to physically be in the park to try for a 1:00 boarding group.

No, you've never had to physically be in the park for the afternoon drop (or the morning one before it changed to 7). You just need to have tapped in to the park.

I thought at one time, you had to physically be in the park for the 1 pm time, but then that was changed. Maybe I misread that in the past. I know currently, you just need to have a park pass and have tapped into the park to try for the 1 pm Boarding Groups.
