Hi, I have heard about alot of unrequested upgrades at other resorts, but not alot from the YC.
We will be staying there on our 30th Ann. We really wanted a lake view, but can only afford the ST. view.:( Truth be told We have been saving alot to get that.
I have heard that the lake view is wonderful at night with the lights and all.
I also think it would be really cool to see Illuminations from our balcony. I dont think they have any in ST. view that you can do that.
Has anybody gotten any unrequested upgrades from the YC?
Thanks for any thought!

Hi there...

Make sure you mention on your reservation that you are celebrating an anniversary.

Also a few days before you arrive fax a nice letter - saying how excited you are about your upcoming stay and that it's your anniversary and you would like to request the best view possible for your room, higher floor... etc...

If you arrive and are still assigned a standard room with a view that doesn't thrill you... just inquire with the front desk if they have anything else available - just be really nice about everything.

If worst comes to worst ask about the "cost" of upgrading and see what they say.

Good Luck!

Hi!
I did have it put in my res. that it is our ANN. I also made a request for a fireworks view and was told that they didnt think that a ST. has one.
I saw in a post to request a upper floor, with a garden view on the lake side. Also a king bed so I called back and put that in my request. Who knows what I will get, but hopfully Ill get one or two of my requests.
An Upgrade would be really nice and a GREAT surprise, but I am not going to expect it. That way It wont be a let down.
I just hope all the requests wont make them think I am going to be a problem guest. I have never made requests before. Never even thought about it until these boards.
My husband and I are low matinance......no kids and dont mind the long walks to the room and all. Most of the time dont even require housekeeping except for new towels.
Its just that I would like this trip to be extra perfect. 30 yrs. with a fantastic Husband , two kids and 9 grandkids are something to celebrate!

Yes, we were one of the fortunate ones to get a YC upgrade. It was in the Fall and we were there with our two young children. During check-in I requested a room close to the elevators since I knew that some of the rooms were a loooooong way off from the front lobby. Well, they bumped us up to concierge! :) I wouldn't have known what it was if I hadn't been on these boards. (the 5th floor)

But Disney was very smart since that's the way we have been staying ever since!

Cass has good suggestions. The best thing is to be nice about it. I have found that most people respond to that. I'm sure they would love to make your special stay even more special!

Good luck! But you will have a wonderful time no matter where you stay!

DW and I did not get an upgrade on our honeymoon in '98, but we did get our water-view room moved to an even better lake-view room because trees had grown and blocked the view of the lake from our previous room. As another poster stated, if you don't like your view, call down to the front desk and see what they'll do. As they also said...be cordial about it, and who knows you just might get some additional pixie dust for your anniversary celebration.

One thing I might suggest, however. Get rid of the King bed specification on your reservation, unless you absolutely, positively can't sleep on a Queen. The reason? Well let's just say the rooms with two Queens in them felt more "roomy" than the room with one King. Might have been a perception, but I do think the room with the Queens was larger. Just some food for thought.

Enjoy your anniversay, and if you can't see Illuminations from your room, there is always the benches that are scattered along the Boardwalk.

Thank you all for your replys. I dont care to much about the king size bed so I might call and have it taken off. Will they get tired of me calling and changing my requests all the time? maybe Ill just leave it and take what I can get. We will be fine with anything. We are at WDW after all.

Dalpal,

We have stayed at the YC 7 times, and we have been upgraded 4 or 5 of those times. Once from Standard to concierge! We go during the July 4th week, so it was a busy time too.

We are lucky I guess, but one thing we do is always book standard. The once or twice we booked waterview, we stayed in waterview. I look at it this way; from standard there is no where else to go but up! Actually the standard rooms usually go fast, and sometimes they aren't available when you check in, so you get bumped.

We were also told that if it is at all possible, they will try to upgrade you to a better view/room. Getting a younger CM when you check in also helps. They seem to be willing to go the extra mile to please you, I guess to advance in their careers.

Ask to see where the room is located on the floor plans before
you actually check in, and if no one volunteers, just come out and ask if there are any complimentary upgrades available! Good Luck and Happy Anniversary!
