Unreasonable? Vent!

My cleaning ladies are supposed to be here every Wednesday.

This week, the owner (she and 3 girls work) took Monday and Tuesday off, for the holiday :bitelip: and she is skipping her other weekly cleanings - so she can clean for the bi/tri weeklies she missed by taking off Mon/Tue!

I told her she had planned poorly and should have worked Monday and cleaned the Tue houses one at a time last week! She didn't agree.

We committed to having her come every Wednesday - so I plan for her to be here on Wednesday! When we were on vacation and only here 4 of 14 days, she still cleaned both days... she said we were working on a *friendship* basis - not on a contract... yes, but my word is my contract!

So aggravating! I am looking for another cleaning service!

I don't blame you. I'm sure she still charged you for cleaning and didn't touch a thing while you were on vacation. Business and friendships don't usually work. Good luck finding a professional and reputable service.

She's not a friend - we were referred to her by other friends - but she thinks the agreement is among friends instead of a business one.

First a warning. The following is just a joke and probably in poor taste. But I couldn't resist. Remember it's a joke....

All people whose vents that begin with "My cleaning ladies..." really have no reason to vent.

Anyway for the real subject. Yep it's poor planning on thier part. I sure hope they're not charging you for this week.

Now wait a minute you contracted her to clean every wed and when she cleaned while you were gone you complained and didn't like her policy, so she should have changed it for you when it fit into your plans, she didn't but you still wanted her to change, or wish she would have. Now she changes the schedule for her plans and you are complaining? When that is exactly what you wanted her to do for you. I do think you need a new company but remember that tolerating change and adjusting expectations goes both ways.

I am not saying you shouldn't be upset if you planned on a cleaning today, she should have told you in advance and let you adjust your plans, certainly they are allowed vacation time, just need to plan better.

When did she inform you of this change? If it was today, I would be upset, but if she gave you fair warning, I don't really see the problem. This was a holiday week and schedules get jumbled. Cleaning people deserve time off as well.

::yes::

If that's the worst thing you've got going on this week, consider yourself blessed. :goodvibes

Can't she come Thursday or Friday instead? It's only one day! If she can't then I think your house will survive one missed cleaning so that the crew can have a well-deserved holiday.

Imagine that, people taking a holiday off. Who'd have thunk it! :bitelip:

PS: I'll trade a "vent" like this for some I've got today anytime!

Umm... didn't complain, just stated that my commitment to her was weekly cleaning - and I kept up that part of the bargain when she came in and was paid for cleaning a house where no one had been !

Never said they shouldn't take the holiday off - - instead, they took a 4 day weekend, without getting the work they would miss on Mon/Tuesday done or planned for ahead of time.

I know there are many worse things than having problems with hired help...want me to share?

I know that I am blessed for being able to afford help weekly - and I've encouraged many people I know to spend the same $60 to save their sanity - it's helped me in more ways than I can count.

Gardeners are off a day too, as well as trash collection and other daily services.

Did you or did you not have notice that you wouldn't have service today? And were you or were you not charged for service this week?

When did she tell you she wouldn't be coming today?

When I had a cleaning person, with advance notice, I could tell them I was going on vacation and not have them come that week (and not pay). I would tell them at least a week in advance.

I would expect the same kind of notice if they were not going to clean my house unless it was an emergency.

If it only happens once a year, if she gave you some notice, and if you like the way she cleans your house, I would let it go. Cleaning people go on vacation, get sick, have sick kids, have holidays, may put other better paying customers before you, etc. It won't change if you get a new service.

My lawn service did the same thing one week. It rained on Tuesday, and they didn't make it to my house on Wed. because they mowed the Tuesday yards. No biggie. I didn't pay for the missed lawn service, and I'm guessing that you aren't paying for the missed cleaning.

It would depend on what the agreement was with the service. I know with my gardener we have it worked out for holidays. He and his guys come every monday. So he gets paid monthly for 4 mondays. If there is a holiday that falls on the monday, he still gets paid as if he worked for mondays that month. But if there is a 5th monday, its still paid as 4. In the end it works out. It was how he wanted the contract to be. We agreed. I would use this as a lesson and get everything worked out ahead of time with your cleaning lady. I think she is being unreasonable. She should not have skipped you because she didn't clean on monday or tuesday. She should have made arangements with monday and tuesday people and worked something out with them. The rest of the week should not have been affected.
