Unofficial guide touring plans - do they work?

Our family visited "the World" for the first time in March of 2000. It was spring break, the millenium and a cheering competition.

Needless to say, it was crowded.

The guide was truly a vacation saver. At the end of our first day in the MK, my husband turned to me and said "Thank God you brought that book, this place is like a maze inside a maze!"

I have the 2003 version I bought before my trip last year. Our trip this year is in June, a few months before the 2005 version will probably be released.

Are the tour schedules so much different from 2003 to 2004 that I need to buy the newer version before I go?

We are on an extremely tight budget (driving from Texas and staying at an All Star to save money), and every penny saved will help with food and a few souveniers.

Are the Tour changes from 2003 to 2004 significant enough to warrant the expense?

WOW! Its clear a lot of people use the guide and I'm excited to see how positive people are about it. It seems using the plans flexibly is the way to get the most out of WDW.

The Unofficial guide rocks!!!:Pinkbounc We didn't follow the plan but used it as a reference to meet our families needs. I read the book from cover to cover and felt really prepared when it came time to tour the parks. I had a general schedule but went with the flow if characters popped up or something interesting. We went last May and are going again this May. I got the new version and have read that as well. We are trying a lot of new restaurants and rides this time. Can't wait to go back!

I would go to a bookstore and take a look.
We are driving from Texas too. We will be at the Pop Century from June 1st to the 9th!

I'm also glad to hear that the guides work - I was going to totally abandon them for our trip this year but now I think I hav changed my mind!

Wow. Thanks again to everyone for your kind words about the touring plans!

Troyfus, drop me a line with your park plans and I'll see what advice we can give: testa@ncat.edu. Be safe on that drive from Texas.

FWIW, 2005 will be a major revision for the Unofficial Guide. We've come up with several ideas to help the Guide save more money, time and hassle. And some of the new writing is laugh-coffee-out-your-nose funny. You'll read it for fun, I promise.

Oh, and I stayed at Pop Century last week. I like it a lot. I'd been stuck at All Star Music the last couple of times I tried 'value' resorts, and I didn't love the food court or the bathrooms. Pop has a better food court, the rooms are cleaner, and the check-in area is nicer. With an AP discount (others are available) to get the room to around $77 per night, it ain't bad at all.

A couple of tips: (1) bring your own shampoo and pillows, if possible. Add beach towels if you plan to go to the pool - otherwise you'll be using your room towels. Oh, and parking is a hike if you're in the 50's building. But that'll get fixed eventually.
