Unmanned tolls

Can anyone tell me if traveling from Disney to dunellon if there are unmanned tolls (electronic) on 429?

Had to look that one up! Looks to me like if you get on via The Western Way there is only a toll plaza after Independence Pkwy, the usual center automated lanes with side lanes for attended tolls. Then I am not sure how you get ticketed for FL Turnpike.

All mainline toll plazas in Central & Northern FL have an attendant option, except for one expressway in the Tampa area. Some exit ramps have only electronic and coin lanes, but since you'll be going to the Turnpike's northern terminus, you won't even have to worry about coins.

You will need to exit off the main roadway at most mainline plazas to get to the cash lanes. There is plenty of warning when you're approaching a toll plaza; just follow the signs for cash tolls.

FL Turnpike has not used tickets in Central & Northern FL for decades. I think the ticket system in South FL has been replaced by all-electronic tolling.

Thanks so much. This is a new trip for us (to Dunellon) and we were curious about the best route. Ah yes, we made the mistake of getting caught on the Tampa unmanned toll road. Cost us 35.00 because we were in a rental.

A couple of corrections to my previous post, although they don't affect the OP, but for the record:
  1. There are now 2 roads in the Tampa area using all-electronic tolling; the 2nd was converted last year.
  2. FL Turnpike still uses tickets from just south of the Orlando area to Palm Beach.

joelkfla, where is the second road in Tampa. The one we used was near the Tampa airport.

I got caught a couple of weeks back trying the exit the 429 at Irlo Bronson. Luckily there was no traffic, I eventually managed to find a third quarter (CND quarters don't work) after about 5 minutes. I've also been stung on admin fees when using a rental. I guess there is always the mail in option.

  1. The first is the Selmon Expwy, aka Toll 618, running east-west from South Tampa to I-75. It's a new road built as all-electronic by the local Tampa toll agency.
  2. The 2nd, which was converted last year, is Veterans Expwy, or the southern portion of Toll 589, running north-south along the west side of the Tampa area from SR-568 to the airport area & I-275. It is part of the Turnpike system.

Not to take a thread off-topic, but the tolls around Tampa worry me as someone who is flying back from TAMPA rather than Orlando for the first time - do you run into all-electronic toll roads on the commute to Tampa Airport from WDW? Thanks!

Only if you miss the exit for the airport after exiting I-275. If you continue on that road past the airport exit, it becomes Veterans Expwy., which is all-electronic. So make sure you stay to the right!

The way you jump to this worries me - is this a notoriously difficult exit to follow for a first-timer making this treck? We rented during our stay for the first time last year (but flew into/out of MCO) and loved the convenience so going back to that well again this time, but the way our return flights worked out it just was better timing and price wise to go back through Tampa, so we'll be departing the Swan and driving to TPA on the day we leave, having never gone to or from the Tampa airport before.

Now I'm worried!

Googlemaps makes it seem pretty straightforward - looks like I'm really just following I-4 the entire way west and then jumping right from there onto George Bean Pkwy, which is where the airport is on, but if there's a tricky step somewhere in there, would love to get the heads up about it! Thanks!

I've never driven the route myself. But looking at Google Maps Street View, I think you'd have to be seriously inattentive to miss the turnoff, or really pressing your luck trying to get around traffic.

Finally mapped this out from Disney to Dunnellon. We have to take the Daniel Webster Western beltway and the Florida Turnpike so hoping there are no unmanned booths.
