My kids and I are staying at ASMo. DH is staying at his parents house and coming for a day here and there to hang out with us at the parks. When he gets bored with the parks mid afternoon and wants to go back to the room to hang out for a bit, is there any way he will be able to get in short of taking a kid or at least their magicband with him?

You can ask for a card, we did last time.

Thanks guys. I was concerned that I was going to have to decide between a grouchy husband who had too much disney or a grouchy child that got delegated to go back for a mandatory rest time.

Do you have any old MB from prior trips? They can work to get him in to the room. Not for parks, since they'll only be for the person they are issued to but they will work to get in the room for whoever wants to use it

Be aware, the app is VERY finicky. Whatever you do, make sure it works before you send him off with it. He may get back and not be able to get in.

We probably have some old magicbands around but they are from 2016 and none were his so idk how that would work.

As long as his name is on the room he can use his own magic band or get a card key from the check in desk.

You don't want one of his bands. You want one of yours, for instance. Has to be someone registered in the current room.

Don't believe he will be, he's not staying there, just going back to rest

Oh ok. I don’t think it would be a problem for someone registered to the room to ask for an extra card key at check in if they don’t have an extra magic band. If questioned about it (very unlikely) say you don’t like the mb and don’t want to carry it around.

True but there have been times when they didn't have them. So odds are yes, they will get a key. I only mentioned old MB because that's easy, something some already have and for getting in the room, work no matter who they are issued to (as long as that person is on this room too)

As long as you and the kids are not on a package, you can add him to the reservation without any extra charge, and he'll get his own magic band that will act as a room key. He doesn't have to actually stay in the room if he's on the reservation.

Unless there are already 4 people in the room, then they cannot add a 5th at ASMo

Agree with PP that you shouldn't rely on the app. We were there two weeks and spent a day off-site, so we tested unlocking the door with the app so we didn't have to carry a MB with us. Tried it on both my phone and DH's phone. On wifi and off wifi. We both have iPhone X's with updated MDE app. Nothing. Couldn't get it to work for the life of us!

I run about 50/50 even with the same phone, same MDE version (same trip, heck, same day) You never know when it will or will not work. I won't rely on it, that's for sure. It's a fun trick to try sometimes. Nothing more.

Yes, that's an important point, thanks. The room occupancy limit at ASMo is 4 persons plus one child under the age of three. If adding the OP's husband would put them over that limit, it would not be possible to add him.

It's really simple just ask for a card key when you check-in. You and your kids will already have MBs and then just give the card key to your husband.

If it's really important to give someone access to your room when they won't be sleeping there, and you can't add them to the resie because that would put you over the capacity limit, and if the front desk won't give you a key card for some reason, and if nobody on the reservation has an extra magic band... you could always buy the cheapest magic band you can find, assign it in MDE to someone who is on the reservation, and then give it to the person who needs to be able to open the door.

Get a card or use the app,.
