I just been reading a few posts on the toilet seat thread, and saw a couple of posts where people flush with their foot...:confused3...never done that one before, just washed my hands afterwards. Anyway, how common is this foot flushing trend?!!!

I always use my foot in public restrooms.

ETA: I do wash my hands, though!

Yes, use foot to flush the toilet... and elbow to advance the paper towels... and then the same paper towel to open the restroom door.

I don't; I'm not gonna risk losing my balance and falling to the floor of a bathroom :crazy2: And like you said, I'm washing my hands after anyway... :confused3

I've never used my foot. Never even heard of it until I started seeing bits about it here on the Dis. :confused3

What does it matter if you're washing your hands immediately, anyway?? :confused3

I always assume those that use their foot to flush never wash their hands, so I always use my sleeve to open the door. ;)

I guess I am a rebel. I sit straight on the seat, use my hand to flush, was my hands and use my bare hand to open the door.

I ALWAYS use my foot. They are not that high up to lose your balance!!

I ALWAYS WASH MY HANDS...and most places dont have HOT water so how clean are your hands after touching that toilet handle and the faucet? YUK!!

And yes, I also use my elbow to roll the paper and the same paper to open the door.

I do not take food or drink of ANY kind in the restroom either. Public restrooms have so many AIRBORNE germs it isnt funny. People sometimes think they picked up a stomach bug from food when sometimes it could be restroom germs on a straw taken in the bathroom that they just SIP away on after all kinds of BATHROOM germs have been flying around it. DISGUSTING!!!! :scared1:

Call me paranoid. But I am SAFER and more conscious than most. :woohoo:

I never use my foot to flush a public toilet. I don't think that is very considerate for the next person, and I think it's just plain dumb. Sit on the toilet (so you don't hover and make a mess for someone else to clean up!), flush with your hand, use warm water and soap to wash your hands before exiting the restroom. Common sense. Some don't have it and are just too paranoid in using a public bathroom. :confused3

I'm another one who likes to live dangerously. I sit on the seat, flush with my hand. Then I wash my hands with soap and use my bare hand to exit the restroom if I have to open a door.

I always use my foot and I always wash my hands. I also hover and have never not made it into the toilet. FYI when one flushes a toilet little droplets of that water along with what is contained in it are spewed outward all over the surfaces of the stall. I would rather not have any of my bare skin touch any of those surfaces, YMMV. I really don't care if that makes me a paranoid germaphobe, I can live with that :)

With the exception of Target, who has their handles about 3 feet off the floor, I always use my foot. It's not dumb, since the person or person before me probably did the same thing. I don't have much of a problem with touching a handle that someone has touched with their hand, but odds are that someone has used their foot before me. Why would foot flushing make anyone think that person doesn't wash their hands? That doesn't even make sense, I would think the exact opposite.:confused3

I always, always wash my hands. I could not leave the bathroom without doing so, and I almost want to puke when someone walks out without washing. I use a towel or my sleeve to open the door because of these people.

I don't know if it is a "trend". I have always used the foot.:confused3 And I always wash my hands after.

Same here! :thumbsup2

It's not the temperature of the water that determines if your hands are clean or not. It's whether you use soap, the length of time you wash and how vigorously/thoroughly.

How do you know you are safer and more conscious than most??? That's pretty arrogant.

That doesn't make any difference. Water hot enough to kill germs would also scald your hands.

Unless there's some rash of horrific bathroom-borne plague no one's heard about, I don't think there's any reason to think you're SAFER than anyone.

I often wonder how foot flushers open the door to the stall? Those that touch the handle to flush spread germs from your foot to the door handle when they leave the stall.

I always use a piece of toilet tissue; I don't want to make the handle any grosser by flushing it with my dirty shoe.

me too....Of course I also sleep on hotel sheets, comforter and all, walk barefoot on the floors, actually touch a hotel remote too and even hold on to the handle of a shopping cart!

All of the above would cause more than a few peoples heads to explode on here.

and btw....I'm never sick either.

Me either. But it seems the germophobes are always sick. :confused3
