I saw the cutest Halloween Lanyard from Disney World on Ebay. No shipping listed (I will not bid on items unless I know the shipping first, burnt once) so I asked what the shipping was and her reply was "You have to bid on the item and win before I will tell you shipping costs" She has a rating of 70. With an attitude like that it won't go much higher! Am I wrong or do most of you like to know the shipping in advance?

I always know the shipping prior to bidding. She probably thinks she needs to know where you live to determine shipping.

Not only will I not bid if the auction doesn't state shipping costs or have a shipping calculator, I won't even email the seller to ask for shipping rates. It's inconvenient to me, it's poor customer service and I don't see the point in not listing it in the first place. There's no way I would bid without knowing the shipping costs, but I guess if someone really wanted the item they could retract their bid if they don't agree with it.

Yeah, but she can tell the prospective buyer to send her zip code & give her a shipping amount. That is crazy.

That's ridiculous...and one of the reasons I almost never bid on Ebay anymore. Too many people listing shipping as a CRAZY price, so that you are definitely no longer getting a better deal shopping on ebay (but then, I'm surprised how many times I've sold something and people bid it up to what it would have cost them to buy it brand new  Ah well, not everyone does their research. But I'm off topic ;) ) It's just their way to make more money.

The least this lady could do is say if she is going to honor standard shipping charges and how much she is charging for "handling" (materials). If she was going to be honest about it she could tell you the approx. weight/dimensions, provide her origination zip and provide a link to the shipping estimators at usps, ups or fed-ex. If she needs the zip to find out, is unwilling to do the work for everyone who asks that question, she can at least let you do it. She sounds dishonest and/or lazy. Not someone I want to rely on to deliver my pkg. in a timely manner.

I put my zip code in my question so she would know. "Shipping to 90210" So it's not a matter of her not knowing where to send it.

I wouldn't bid on it at all. I am not putting myself at the mercy of a seller who can decide to way overcharge the shipping, once I have committed to buying the item. A good seller will either A-have a flat shipping charge listed ot B-have the shipping calculator right in the auction. Not to mention, that is a pretty crappy attitude for someone who is trying to make a sale. :sad2:

I have even e-mailed sellers letting them know that I am not bidding on their auction because the shipping is outrageously high.

I would NEVER bid on anything without knowing the shipping. I notice many auctions with no bids that do not list the shipping.

That is plain dumb. Especially since you gave her your zip code! She has no reason for not knowing the shipping other than if she is going to pad the cost if the item doesn't sell for as high as she wants it to.

I had an auction I was looking at for a homeschooling book and the quoted shipping was UPS ground for like $5. Media mail would be no more than $2 but the seller would not consider any other shipping options. I think people are just shooting themselves in the foot with these kinds of policies.
