Hi. Do you know someone that works there or is staying on campus? My cousins daughter just arrived today to stay on campus. They said that her room was filthy. Mold on curtains, dirty walls, bathroom was dirty. They pay all that money to go there and its like that. :furious: She was in tears  She knows that she comes from the upper class of Africa, but that was disgusting. Now I feel sorry for her. They even borrowed cleaning supplies to help her.8 months in there :scared1:

My daughter is just entering her 2nd year at Guelph and though her room last year is Res was small and dingy..it was pretty clean as were the bathrooms. I would have her complain to her RA and be guided as to where she should complain from there in order to have it acted upon. That can be depressing when emotions are already running at an all time high!

I hope it all gets better for her soon :thumbsup2

Pass on BIG HUGE :welcome: To my home town. Ok it is a big city with a small town feel. This is the 1st time I have heard that res @ U.Of Goo (as it is known here) is sooo bad! i too would be very upset over such deplorable (sp?) living conditions. That is awful. SHE MUST COMPLAIN NOW!! Get it in writing, you know the old saying, document, document, document!! There will be senior students who are in charge of every floor and she should search one out IMMEDIATELY. If they do not help or direct her to the right place then she should tell them she wants to speak to the DEAN! HUHM my neighour is on staff at the Univeristy as part of the maintance crew. If you find out that she is not getting anywhere let me know and I will try to find out where she should go for help.
Best of luck and again I am sorry. :grouphug:

And another Welcome to Guelph - wow was it ever crazy here Sat and Sunday with the move in's!!

I'd definatly get it in writing!! Go find someone.

Hope she enjoys her time in Guelph!!

Hi again. Hey Donald-my hero. I e-mailed you, but can we please have the name of your neighbour? I guess that more problems have come up at the University. Thanks alot.

Wow...that is too bad that she isn't enjoying her first few days at U of G. My DD is a 4th year student there and although she doesn't stay in res anymore, her year in res was a good one, quite clean and comfy (albeit cramped). Hope it all works out.

Another Guelph resident here, wanting to say "welcome!"

I'm sorry to hear about the problems, though. My daughter lived in residence for several years and was an RA for two years so I know there are people on hand ready to help out with these issues. Keep asking until you get some help!!!

Just wanted to let everyone know that I have been responding to PM's about this situation and as soon as friend gets in from work I will see if we can track down some help for the girls affected by these problems! NO excuse as hubby just said as he works with his lap-top "doncha think they coulda fixed it over the summer?"

Oh and to whoever said it is crazy during move - in weekend ::yes:: Sure is -- whole streets blocked off and this year topped with mega construction, that made it hard for us to get from grocery store at that end of town to home (stupid us we forgot what weekend it was  ) I hope everyone manages to find all of their stuff they packed and gets sorta organized before stuck in homework!

Several years ago when I moved into Res. at Queen's in Kingston, my room was disgusting and building was poorly cleaned. Well, after complaining and nothing happening, I've decided to send any donations to other schools...sorr Queen's, this alumni's money will be spent elsewhere!)

Sorry for your cousin but she will love it in Guelph...do they still have beerfest??? Fun times!

Good luck!

Sorry one & all but my friend had the luck of working overtime today and I have not been able to get ahold of her :guilty: I still feel sick about what has happened! No excuse for some poor child (regardless of their age) to be away from home and then be forced to live in horrid conditons.

Guelph really is a very pretty city and I hope she gets a chance to breathe a bit easier in her res so that she can take the odd break. OH OH tell her that if she likes coffee :coffee: the 2 places I would recommend : 2nd Cup on Corner of College & Gordon, she can use her meal card in this and there is internet connection in the cafe. It is directly across the street from University and a funky sculpture garden (ask her about the BEGGING bear :goodvibes ) OR there is a Williams within walking distance -- in the same plaza as the Ultra Grocery store. In that plaza there is also a Casey's that I believe she can use her meal card in.

Hi, I just moved my daughter into Guelph res on Sunday. Room was clean but not luxurious at all...painted concrete walls. There was a form in the room for her to fill out about deficiencies, she was to turn it in to her tower leader (or whatever they are called) when she went to the mandatory hall meeting. She seems to be happy about the room. I guess she was lucky.

By the way, Guelph is a lovely city, I'm so glad she will have the experience of living in a smaller city environment. Toronto can get oppressive at times, and we sometimes forget there is anything else.

University residences are sparse and usually have painted concrete walls. However, they shouldn't be dirty. That is inexcusable. There should be lots of phone numbers and email addresses on the University website to get some action. Each residence has an office and a student committee, both of which should be able to help.
