We want to stay 1 night on 25th July. Cheaper for us to do this than to buy Express Pass. Last year we stayed 1 night at Hard Rock, not that impressed with hotel but passes were a must as it was so busy. This year my brother and family will be there and they are looking forward to Universal more than anything so have decided to stay in hotel again. Best I can see so far is £190 on Hotels.com with 8% cashback, sure it was 10% a few days ago.

We paid less than this to stay at Hard Rock last year, £160 I think including cashback.

So if anyone knows a better way I would be very grateful.

Can't see any cheaper at the moment.
We were not impressed with the Royal Pacific, paid £100 and thought that was too much, no way would I pay £190.
If you book check you can cancel at no fee, possibly a cheaper rate will come along.

I know its crazy prices but far cheaper than express pass. We might not even sleep in the room as we will still have Bonnet Creek where the rooms are 10 times nice, and bigger. Probably go back for a swim though.
I have booked it and don't have to pay till check. 5 day cancellation so plenty of time to find a better deal.

We have stayed at the RPR 4 times now, 1 night x2, 2 nights then last year 5 nights. I guess you can say we like it. Like you we did the costings for FOTL passes plus taxi fares & it worked out cheaper. Like Wayne, I don't think it's worth £190 just for the stay.

I have always booked direct for various reasons. and while we where not there last summer we have been the previous 7 or 8 years and in 2011 we paid approx $221 incl taxes. RPR is our fav resort , and never had any prob with previous stays, and they have varied from 7 days to 4 weeks.

At the end of the day if the FOTL passes are what you want take the cost of these for two days by the number of peeps in your party - if this total is more than one night at a universal hotel - HORRAY! you have a bargain! If not - buy the passes.

Personally, we loved RPR and stayed 5 nights last year and have booked the same for this summer. The pool is lovely and having won several $20 cocktails at poolside bingo, enjoyed indulging on the cheese steak wrap and the fab poolside nachos this hotel is perfect for us. Having previously crammed our universal trips into a one or two day visit it was refreshing to take the parks at a more leisurely pace and enjoy the early entry benefits followed by an afternoon swim before heading back to really take advantage of the FOTL pass.

It may not be cheap - but we have one holiday a year and I make savings and compromises during the year to enjoy these pleasures.

Depends what you are looking for..

Exactly, we like different things. To us the pool area took us back 25 years to what we used to get from a holiday in Spain, overcrowded pool, no beds spare and an annoying person on a microphone. Totally not what we want from a pool and totally the opposite to the small pools at OKW where some afternoons we don't see anyone.
As you say, depends what you are looking for.

Am i right in thinking that the Universal Express pass only allows you to go to the front once per ride, and some rides are excluded, but if you have a room key you can go as often as you like?

That's correct. Although its only required at busy times, we hardly used FOTL when we stayed August, late July for OP its probably more beneficial.
