Has anyone ever been to this? Was it neat? Was it worth a day away from the Disney theme parks?

Universald and IOA are always worth a day away from Disney.

We loved it...Christmas at Universal is excellent. Take time to check out the resorts as well, the decorations are fantastic, special meals, lots going on.

Enjoy!

Thanks! I am just starting to look into heading over there for our next trip (at christmas time). We have never done Universal before. I just noticed that there are Universal Boards on here too. I guess I have to check those out!

Definately check them out. The parks are fantastic, clean and bright.
You will love it during the holidays! If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask. WE have stayed at the resorts (except hard rock..too loud, lol). Royal Pacific is considered the low end resort, although it is equal, if not nicer than a disney deluxe resort. Most people compare Portofino to the GF, but we have stayed at both and Portofino is heads above Disney's GF.

Can you comment on the holiday dining? Where? Do you need ressies?

We will be at WDW 12/21 to 12/26 and Universal 12/29 and 12/30 at Portifino.:surfweb: Is there anything special or extra that I need to book or plan.

Here's some photos from the parade and park in 2005 - it was very fun -- terribly rainy and cold weekend that year (hence the water spots on some of the photos!), but that's life - still better than being at work!

Hey Vicki C, great photo's don't I know you from TGM:rotfl2: see ya over there.:santa:

I'm not sure if they still do this but a couple years ago they were randomly handing out invitation letters through out the park to be balloon handlers in the parade.

The park guest who received these were teamed up with trained handlers a hour before the parade to get set up. While this was cool to be a part of the parade, we would pass on doing it again as it look time away from other the park attractions we could have been enjoying for the 2 hours we were "working" the parade.

Do these parades run everyday and when do they start? We're in Florida for 2 weeks in December and would love to see the parade. Many Thanks!

The parade runs Dec. 7th through Jan 1st. Thanks for the pictures vicki_c- that looks great!

Parade runs every day during the period it is there--usually starts at 5:00 pm, if i recall correctly. Just before the park closes.

With construction not sure they will do it this year, but in the past, they have set up some of the larger balloons along the ground, so you could walk around them.
