We did our VIP tour at Epic yesterday and had a fantastic time! We did the 8 hour private and it was the right choice for our group as we had a mix of ages, interests and physical ability levels.

It did not seem like 8 hours at all! We had a dinner reservation afterwards at Atlantic and after that grandparents headed back and the rest of us stayed until 10. The kids could not get enough and would have easily done another day there. The attention to detail in all the portals was amazing! My H and daughter did ride Stardust and enjoyed it.

Well started day great.2 great rides on stardust at rope drop. Then got in a supposed 75 min ministry of magic line.90 mins later inching along nowhere near t ride loading . Completely wasted morning. My mistake. Should’ve done monsters next . This queue is awful, barely moves , just inching along with frequent 5 min or longer dead stops. Not sure if that’s normal, but anyway . Just venting . If we ever get out of here , ll we ever escape the ministry, looking forward to monsters!!

When I rode BatM last August, I took an early bus from Dockside to Epic to make sure I was right up there at the entrance tapstiles. Then we got walked all the way to the Ministry and proceeded more or less directly onto the ride. The big "if" in this scenario is whether the ride is actually operating first thing. Often it's not, making this probably a huge waste of time. But I gambled and won! Oh snap....

Also note, the Wizarding World (unless something has changed) is not an early entry portal. So, anybody can queue up for the long march to BatM even if they're staying offsite. If you are okay with taking a chance on BatM coming up first thing, I recommend it.

Yeah, wouldn’t have attempted this ministry if wait time hadn’t said 75. Should’ve just not believed it and tried later. We’re 2 hours in with no end in sight…..so should’ve trusted my gut and gone on to monsters or anything else. And wasted this time in the afternoon. Also didn’t expect line to keep stopping so much , barely moving . Not a continuous moving line.

My son is there today as well and says the lines are just crazy and everything seems to be breaking down. Compared to yesterday when all the rides seemed to be running well and the crowds were manageable. Marios Kart posted a 60 minute wait when they got in line but the wait ended up being over 3 hours. They are staying at Helios and are heading back for a break. I feel bad for them as they were supposed to have express passes for today but there was a mix-up in their passes.

hmm.. not what I want to hear. Heading back for a couple of days soon after my terrible experience during the previews.
Was hoping things would be fixed by now.

About 3 hours 40 min wait for ministry, and frankly, not worth it at all. Maybe worth 30ins . Like gringotts meets forbidden journey. Good for HP fans, otherwise , meh, or probably clouded by the wait. We wasted all morning on that. Now other rides delayed . DD just did Werewolf . No single rider when she got on line. 90 mins. Then fairly close to boarding, she saw single riders start appearing. Her seat mate say she waited 15 mins. DS just went there, and single rider closed agsin, so don’t count on single rider options . It was also closed when we got in lime at Ministry .I never do this, but I complained to customer service. I m supposed to stop at guest services for one blue pass for one ride, not ministry. I work in customer service, so I know what it’s like to deal with complaining people all day, and I’m trying to not be all negative, but this day is not fun at all. I just want to leave…..but we’ll stick it out and hope for best. Mad at myself for not doing other rides over ministry

Goblet Noire has been a nice spot to recuperate/ rest and regroup. Food good. Nothing my DS usually gets, but he was so hungry , he tried corned beef sandwich and enjoyed . I got the pork schnitzel , and it’s yummy
Hidden gem. So big, lots of rooms & tables. We grabbed one along the wall with bench and DS used the backpack for a pillow and took a power nap. Desserts very good if just looking for snack break. Have some nice beverages but I got Butterbeer.

Is there an official list of single rider lines at Epic? So far , the list I’ve found are wrong. I know they’re not always open, but what rides officially have them?
IDK about an official list, but I’ve personally seen a SR line at:

BatM
Wing Gliders
Stardust
Monsters
Mario Kart
Werewolf
Minecart (I haven’t actually seen this one myself, but I’ve seen enough people complain about it to know it exists lol!)

But as you’ve seen, there doesn’t seem to be much rhyme or reason as to when they’re open or not. The other hitch is that some of them pretty consistently take longer than the standby line - I see this complaint a LOT about Minecart, BatM, and Werewolf.

PS: I’m so glad you found the magic of Le Gobelet Noir! I adore that place and find it very soothing for a restart.

checking in here prepping a trip in early mid December . . .not to sound like someone who just came out of a cave...but is everyone serious that the ride wait times are this long and rides are often down? I have intentionally tried not to learn too much because I wanted the family to experience all of this with complete novelty, but wow!

I'm excited to see Epic, but not going to sit in 2+hour lines for it. Can anyone expand on the worth-while-ness of this? We'll still go to the park, but I want to set the expectations we may not do all the rides. Our package only covers one day. Also, unless someone can also sell it, I'm not seeing the value of buying the express pass at $220/person...that seems crazy expensive especially if rides are actually regularly going down.

Also, don't have a lot to add about the concerns about the roller coaster risk if the park green lighted it. Tragic and Horrible story of course and prayers for the family, but strikes me as a rare event. Government, Lawyers and insurance companies and the engineers behind them have a lot more say in running the park than management and the CEO does. Physics and math are honest sciences even though nothing is certain.

Sorry if this is a completely recycled conversation, but would value quick reactions here.

Epic is very dependent on the individual day it seems. Since there aren't that many rides, when 2 or more have a rough day it really impacts the rest of the wait times. One day will be great then the next might have rides down for hours with long waits that linger most of the day. Weather also plays a role, with storms closing all but 4 rides.

Generally, so far, Sundays (by far) and then Saturdays have been the best for crowds/waits. Mondays have been worst, then Fridays.

Wait times drop drastically in the evenings. Do whatever you need to in order to make it to closing (arrive later, mid day break, use shows to rest up, whatever) - but if storms are likely in the evening hours, don't leave the outdoor rides for last.

Monsters Unchained is great and also has a good track record for reliability & short lines (fast loading). I feel like Mario Kart is also pretty reliable but does get long lines. It's indoors too so good choice when it storms, but obviously the line gets longer as more people are funneled to a few open rides.

This trip report is a little delayed, but I think that it's kind of timely, considering the current discussion. Caution: This is LONG!

My travel partner and I did our first trip to Epic on Tuesday, September 2 and Wednesday, September 3 (i.e. the two days immediately after Labor Day). We bought two single day tickets, but no Express Pass. As long-time Universal passholders who have been eagerly watching this park being built since it was just a pile of dirt, to say we were excited leading up to this trip was an understatement.

After taking a super early flight in, we dropped our bags off at our hotel (Terra Luna) and got the park just as it was opening to the public.

Our first impression was that the park is absolutely gorgeous. The colors, the design and the details make it a thing of beauty. I wanted to soak it all and take a million photos.

Also, it was HOT! I hadn't had much to eat and having been up for almost 6 hours so I needed something. Our first stop was the Isle of Berk so we grabbed a mac and cheese cone. Here was our first experience with baking in the sun, but this wasn't unexpected. Then we headed for Hiccups Wing Gliders which was an awesome ride (I found it to be the equivalent to Hagrids which is one of my favorites), but waiting outside in the heat for 60+ minutes was rough. Afterwards, I needed to sit in some air conditioning so we headed to The Untrainable Dragon show, only to be met by a bunch of team members telling us that the next show had been canceled. Then we tried to see about meeting Toothless - also delayed! Wait times were mounting all over the park so we headed to the carousel (which was neat, but also something that didn't have air conditioning). By that point, I was approaching meltdown point. I was hot and hangry and needed to sit. We headed to the Oak & Star for lunch and to (hopefully) text the hotel and see if our room was finally ready. The food at lunch was good and the air-conditioning was very welcome, but somehow my friend's mobile order got lost and she waited almost 20 minutes (and had to ask three different people) to get it.

We went to our hotel for a long break to get a nap and wait out the heat and the crowds. While we were there, I kept watching the wait times and at one point there were 5 different rides delayed (none of them due to weather). Not good! As you would expect, wait times skyrocketed for the rides that were open.

We finally headed back to the park around 6 p.m. and it felt significantly less crowded. We got on Dragon Racers, saw the Untrainable Dragon, went on Monsters Unchained, I went back on Hiccups and got a butterbeer while my friend went on Stardust. My friend was just about done at that point, but I saw that Battle of the Ministry was at 20 minutes so we headed there and then did the fountain show to close the park. This evening was, by far, the most productive part of our trip.

The next morning, we got up to do Early Entry, but when we got to the park, Yoshi's was the only thing that was open. (Mario Kart opened mid-morning and by Minecart didn't open until well after noon) Not a good start, but whatever. After doing that, we headed to the Curse of the Werewolf and we started baking in the heat again. While waiting we decided where we wanted to eat (Das Stakehaus won). We had hoped to see Le Cirque before leaving the park, but that went down again before we finished eating. The park was having another bad day with virtually every ride going down at some point.

During our afternoon break, it rained briefly - not enough to close any rides, but also not enough to clear out the park. Wednesday evening was not nearly as productive as the night before. We would decide on where to go, head one way, and then find out that what we wanted to see was delayed. We went to see Le Cirque and it stopped twice before they finally canceled the show (we wound up never seeing it). We got a single Express Pass in compensation, which we later used on Mario Kart. We wandered around the Harry Potter area, which was amazing, and got on Battle of the Ministry again with a short wait, but as the night wore on, we were just defeated. Every ride that we went on was top-notch, but the constant re-calculating plans, watching wait times, seeing if rides were open, was just too much like work - or as I said at one point, too much like being at Disney. I felt like I always had my phone out. We've always loved Universal for being a very relaxing vacation and this wasn't it.

As we wrapped up our night, I decided that I wanted to talk to someone at Guest Services. Not to complain per se, but I felt that they needed to hear how we felt about Epic and what we experienced. We are as big of pro-Universal people as there are and if we were disillusioned by our trip, well, they might want to know how big of a problem they have. The person we spoke to at Guest Services was professional, taking down all that we had to say (we gave the good as well as the bad), asking some questions, and then she acknowledged that the park had had a couple of bad days. When we mentioned that we had another big trip planned for November (a larger family trip for a big "0" birthday) and that we weren't sure that we were going to even come to Epic based on this trip, she offered us something to encourage us to "try again." That was unexpected and, I felt, generous.

The crazy part is that right now, how you experience Epic can truly depend on whether the park is having a good day. I had been watching wait times for weeks before we went and everything looked to be doing really, really well. The day before we went (Labor Day), I didn't see many rides above 30 minutes all day. But on the days we went, the whole park fell apart and it got very bad very quickly.

So, will I go again? Yes, but I'm definitely tempering my expectations. My best friend and I are going to Universal in January for her first trip to Epic and instead of an Epic focused trip, we'll probably spend a day or two there and then the rest of time at Islands and Studios. We were originally booked at Stella Nova and I've switched us back to Cabana Bay (if anyone wants to read it, I also posted my comments about Terra Luna on that thread). Everything that the masses have been saying about Epic (good and bad) proved true for me. It is a beautiful park with amazing rides and great food. It is also an unreliable mess at times and doesn't have enough attractions for the crowds.

I’ve only gone twice: once during previews and again after it opened to the public. But I’ve also been watching how operations and wait times go. I still think Epic is SO much more than attractions and both of my 10-11 hour days felt full and left me wanting more time in the park. Given that I’m usually ready to leave a theme park after a few hours, this is really saying something!

But I also think you need to approach it with realistic expectations: assume long wait times will be the norm, and be prepared to be flexible. One of the park’s biggest issues is that most of the people-eating rides go down with lightning in the area - this drives up wait times at the few indoor attractions. A couple high capacity rides go down with operational problems? Wait times increase across the park. This is just the way it is. My advice to everyone is to have an idea of what they’d most like to attempt and just watch wait times: be ready to pounce when you see a time that’s acceptable to you. And take advantage of evening hours: wait times nearly always decrease in the evenings. Both my days I entered the park around 11-11:30am and started with lunch, then wandered around and did attractions the rest of the day: I don’t feel I missed anything but aggravation by not arriving earlier.

Also, long wait times do not necessarily equal a crowded park. I found that the place felt much less people-y than other parks when wait times are high. And it boasts a ton of food and beverage locations to spread out the eating crowds.

Only you can decide if ExP is worth the cost. It’s simply not in my budget at all, so I didn’t have it and was perfectly fine with how both my days went. No, I didn't do all the things I wanted to, but I enjoyed the heck out of what I did do!

To help balance out the negative experiences, I will say we were very lucky on a Sunday in August and had an amazing time. We did early entry and followed the crowd to Mario Kart, where our wait was mostly a short delay. Maybe the delay being announced at the entrance scared people away, and I think the app showed BatM open, but we were in the second group for Mario Kart.

When we came out, Nintendo land was already getting crazy, and Minecart was down so we used our shared Power Up band a bit and then headed to Dragons. Rode Fyre Drill because it was already hot and no line, but it seemed pointless and some of us (not me) didn't wear the right clothes and should have skipped it. The line was bad for Wing Gliders and there was no single rider, so we headed to the carousel.

We were boarding when my daughter got a notification that Minecart was open. We still rode and enjoyed the carousel, and then moved quickly to Minecart. The wait time wasn't bad, but we did single rider, which was quick because most people had jumped in the regular line. We then had an early lunch at Toadstool to beat the crowds. Not the best food. Pizza Moon for dinner was SO much better.

We spent the hot and crowded early afternoon riding Monsters (quick line all day), exploring Darkmore and Harry Potter, getting cold drinks, and watching the Circus show. The BatM line was under 100 minutes, so my daughter and I got in line while my husband and son took a break back at our hotel, a quick walk to Stella Nova. We hadn't expected to ride, and the actual wait time of about 70 minutes went very quickly in nice, cool, open spaces. We were very happy.

We then decided to tackle the hour line for Winged Gliders It was very hot and miserable in the outdoor line and I tied my shirt into a crop top, embarrassing my daughter, but the ride was awesome. Then we met the guys at the Dragon show, I think the last show of the day. Glad we didn't miss it. We ate Pizza Moon, and I still think about that delicious purple crust and the cheese.

The line for Yoshi was finally reasonable in the evening (maybe 35 minutes?), and good for digesting dinner. My husband and daughter then headed to Stardust Racers and my non-coaster riding adult son and I had a lot of nostalgic fun playing life size Nintendo games with the Power Up band. They said Stardust was surprisingly more extreme than Velocicoaster.

We met up in Darkmore for another ride on Monsters and to see the windmill light on fire. My daughter decided against a ride on Werewolf. We headed out of the park, and "happened to" catch the light show (my secret plan).

This paragraph captured the essence of Epic Universe: beautiful and temperamental. I've never, in my entire life, felt so defeated by a theme park. At one visit, I actually gave up and left mid-day. The level of disappointment & exhaustion was high.

Despite all that, I have tickets to return this December. The park is so beautiful, there's no way I will miss the holiday decorations.
