Universal (Yes or No)

Was this originally posted on the debate board? If so, I'm confused as to two things--one, why was it moved and two, nobody should be surprised by the debate.

cathdisfan, since you seem surprised by all this I'm assuming that it wasn't started on the debate board. If that's the case, don't let this stop you from posting in the future! This kind of stuff can easily frighten away a new poster, which is not the intention.

I think that Universal people can get a bit defensive because so many people complain about the Universal parks and some of them haven't even been there. Nothing wrong with constructive comments, but to just slam a park without saying why the poster feels that way is not helpful. Universal has many wonderful attributes and if a person can look at it without constantly comparing it to WDW then they can have a wonderful time. I could complain about how dated parts of WDW are, but instead I concentrate about what I do like about WDW. It's all about a person's perspective and attitude and some people are going to hate whatever is not Disney. So be it.

The people on the Universal boards are wonderful. Please don't let a renegade debater keep you from the wealth of information that they have available here.

I have something to say, I asked one simple question. Maybe I didn't phrase it right? I guess I wanted to know what the difference is. But after reading all of the above posts, I will consider posting anything again. I did not mean to start a controversy.

Please Cathdisfan, do not be offended or scared off, this has nothing to do with you. Everyones questions are always welcome on the universal boards and the people here will help in any way possible. Most of us love Universal and Disney for their individual qualities and rides, and they can not be compared. Each park must be experienced for you to make your own comparison. You will find things you love in both places. Disney provides an atmosphere and many great attractions. Universal provides a seperate and different atmosphere with many great attractions. I absolutely love Disney, but after my first trip to Universal in 12 years last fall, I found many rides and attractions at Universal which Disney has nothing to compare. I now plan seperate trips for each and love them both. Hopefully, you will try them both and make your own judgement. In the meantime, please feel free to ask any questions over here you have, and I can guarantee someone can answer them for you and you will find this board to be a generally very friendly place.

Let me take this chance to apologize for what I said. I shouldn't have continued, but it's tough when such mis-information is posted.

Cathdisfan, just think of it this way...IOA is what former Disney Imagineers get to create when they're not under the same budget constraints and pay cuts.

And yes, rides like Spiderman, Men In Black, and opening soon, The Mummy, are far beyond the kinds of rides Disney has built since about 1994 IMO.

I don't hate Disney one bit, but to me, there hasn't been anything groundbreaking there for many years.

If you can ignore the coasters, you'd see that IOA is themed just as well, if not better than Disney parks. From lightposts to trash cans, everything has theming to go with the area that they're in.
