Universal when it rains?

Never been to Universal Studios or Islands. I'll be staying at Nickelodeon hotel and would like to spend the first day there using the water ride facilities. However, if it happens to be raining that first day, I was thinking about using that day for Universal. I'm guessing there are still going to be plenty of things to do even if it's raining. Good idea or bad idea?

We went a couple of weeks ago and they told us to do universal on rainy days. They were right! Lots of shows and indoor attractions. Better than IOA for the rain and tornado warnings we faced while there!

a majority of the studios rides are indoors.

the rides that are outside and not covered, do run in the rain but not when lightening is happening.

there are more rides at ioa that are not covered but they are still rideable in the rain.

no one really enjoys being in any park when it is raining, especially if it is pouring.
me included......

but, if it rains on a day i am there, i get wet.

if the rain begins before i leave my hotel room, i dress accordingly.
tevas, kwi dri tops and bottoms and a poncho for the park.

The Studios side is better for rain- the only outdoor attractions are Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, Kidzone area and the Cinematic Spectacular show.

The only indoor attractions at IOA are Cat in the Hat, Spider-Man, Forbidden Journey and the Sinbad Show.

Keep in mind that rides will only close if lightning is within 5 to 10 miles of the park.

We were told that rides stop running when lightning is 5 miles away (and closer of course). And this probably won't be an issue for you because you're not staying onsite, but it's worth mentioning anyway...the boats stop running at such time, too. And you cannot stay under the structure for the boat line, because that structure is made of metal.

We went to the movie side the day it rain. it rained all day long but we still had a blast we just couldnt ride the one roller coaster.

The indoor rides keep running and the only things to shut down are the outdoor rides

Another indoor attraction at IOA is Poseidon's Fury but that still isn't much.

IOA is nice during a gentle warm rain otherwise the Studios are way better when it's stormy.

Oh sure, I wasn't meaning ALL rides, of course. Hopefully no one actually took it to mean that I thought it was all rides. :)

My points in posting were to impart the 5 mile info that we were told, and also the boat info that we experienced. Though that boat experience taught us that air conditioned stores when you are drenched are NOT fun at all, and that there are shuttle vans to all the onsite hotels.

Wow I never thought about it like that, but yes that is a good idea, especially at the main Universal park, but even IOA has several main rides all in doors. Most of the best rides on the Universal side are inside, The Mummy, MIB, the Terminator show, ET, the Simpsons, I like Twister even, although its at the bottom of the list and I now a lot of people don't like it, but if there is not much of a line its kind of neat to do.
