Universal Vs. Knott's Berry during the Holidays?

We were originally planning our trip Sun to Sunday for 7 days. The hotel we booked for Disneyland is booked on the Friday/ Saturday of that week... all the hotels are booked or are expensive. we are looking at whether to cut our trip short & leave on Friday morning or stay Fri - Sun at another hotel.

I loved Universal Studios, but haven't been with my little ones (2, 32" tall & 4, 39" tall). May be too scary for them. If my little ones weren't with us, we would choose Universal. They're not tall enough for the height requirements. Are the holiday events worth seeing with little ones?

Would Knott's Merry Farms be better? We went to Knott's last year & after DL it was ok, but don't know if I can convince my husband to go back. I saw the blog on Merry Farms- great overview of the holiday events. Hubby wouldn't be into the crafts fair & demos.

Is the holiday show & decor better at Knotts or Universal?

As for the price, it looks like Knotts is half the price? Could only find Universal tix that were good for the whole year. Are there 1 day tickets for sale somewhere?

Another option might be Legoland, but it's an hour away. My girls play with legos, but not sure if they'd be really into it.

I've not been to Universal Studios since the 80s (but that situation is being remedied in a couple of weeks, as a friend in L.A. insists that I will love their Grinchmas celebration so we're going when I'm out for my Disney trip :hyper: ) Supposedly it is very cute, with a Grinch/Dr. Seuss themed area & characters walking around, and a tree lighting ceremony of a lopsided Seuss-like Christmas tree.

I can, however, comment on Knott's Merry Farm...it is wonderful!! It's not as over-the-top as the holiday festivities at DLR, but it is, to me, a must-do if one is in the area in December. The Snoopy holiday-themed ice skating show is super cute & included in the cost of admission. The Log Ride is turned into Santa's Workshop, with snow and trees and elves. Camp Snoopy is decorated in light sculptures that make the area even prettier than it usually is at night. If you'll be at Knott's on a Sunday, the festively-themed brunch buffet (hosted by Snoopy!) at Mrs. Knott's Fried Chicken Restaurant is a must-do!!

Go to Legoland.

There isn't much at either park for your kids to do.

Grinchmas at Universal last year was fantastic! Celebrity Tree lighting, snow playarea, ect. This year, however, looks like its going to be drastically scaled back due to construction for the Wizarding World.

A one day ticket to Universal is $84, the same price as an entry level Annual Pass.

Unfortunately, with the new Log Ride, there is no longer a Christmas overlay.
