Universal to Drop Hints about Jimmy's Replacement

Oh great, now they just go an toss madagascar into the mix, lol. So far from the hint we have gotten, it could be either Kong, DM, and now even madagascar. How about another ride like Jimmy where they toss a bunch of random cartoons together for a ride. Kong invades the island from madagascar where the Despicable Me Minions are doing something crazy. Then the characters from madagascar and despicable me must work together to escape from Kong. :rotfl2:

At this point I am totally lost now. I have no idea what they have planned other than using a movie and CGI.

Seems like Transformers to me....

Its CGI and Copyrighted like someone mentioned the C possibly meaning.

Its kid friendly but also is popular with the older 20-40 ish crowd. It also has proven to have longevity so not going out of style anytime soon.

The last clue seems to me is the biggest hint with it being a Bumble Bee. I don't see why they would add a clue that "might" be a clue. Thats just stupid. The clue answer is Bumble bee just not an actual Bumble bee.

Since its going into Universal Hollywood I could also see them having it in Orlando.

Pretty curious what it'll end up being. I will be happy if its this. Was not rly a fan of the Despicable me movie tbh so I would not care for that.

I could see them doing something with Twister also maybe? Its closed half the time I go to the park. I would think they would want to replace that with something a little more popular maybe.

The reason I don't think it is Transformers, at least not the Hollywood's version of Transformers is because of the size of the soundstage.

29y38y8.png

This is the comparison of Spiderman (orange) to Jimmy (blue). I used Spiderman as an example because it is similar to the upcoming ride at Hollywood.

With a soundstage this small, I really don't think we can see any major rides. If it were my guess, I'd say we will be seeing the same motion system or maybe Kong 360-type ride.

You have to remember however, that the new transformers ride is going into a small building as well. The elements that makes transformers so different than spiderman is that it is vertical with an elevator system that will move the cars up to another level. The building transformers is taking over is the old backdraft building which I would assume is close in size to the Twister building. While I would like USF to get Transformers at some point in time, I would rather them test out this new design in Hollywood first to see how things go. If the multi-level design does not work out, USF has more space to flatten it out like Spiderman.

While the bee clue makes sense, I still don't think it is going to be Transformers. The Jimmy building still seems to small to do much of anything with. Even Kong is starting to seem out of the picture. The one thing that makes Kong 360 so cool in Cali, is the fact that the screen is on both sides of you and the action takes that into effect. We have about a week and half left to guess and hopefully we start getting better clues.

While the building is probably not the size of Spiderman, Transformers took over both the Backdraft Soundstage and the Special Effects Stage.

Despite the clues, I can't see Transformers coming to USF anytime soon. It is too new and exclusive to USH and USS. When it does come to Florida, it will be as part of the inevitable Marvel take-over, which hopefully won't be for ages yet.

I think you are all missing the boat here. I think we will be getting a Despicable Me ride somewhere, but not necessarily to replace Jimmy Neutron.

How about re-theming the Madagascar: Crate Escape water attraction at USS to Despicable Me?

Pros:

1. Already have the technology from the prototype version in Singapore
2. USF needs a water ride
3. There is certainly enough space to build a big themed showbuilding for the ride, wherever they build it (Twister, Disaster, Neutron...)
4. IP which Universal actually OWNS.

Cons:

1. Are USF looking to spend a lot on a showbuilding, when the park is really just a load of old backlot studios?
2. Is Despicable Me a big enough IP to warrant a new attraction of its own?

SECONDLY, if Kong 360 3D comes to USF anytime soon, it would be a sensational coup. I agree with previous posters than a lot more can be done than with the USH version. Perhaps a full ride themed to Kong? It would fit perfectly in the Disaster building.

Pros:

1. Don't let the USH version fool you. There does not NEED to be a train that takes you around the grounds and then into a studio for the 3D part. In USF, the 'tour' of Skull Island could also be a 3d 360 screen. The mayhem that occurs at USH when Kong confronts the dinos could still happen as the finale, but let's explore a virtual Skull Island, rather than be part of a realworld studio tour.

2. This would arguably be the highlight of UOR, and certainly the best thing at USF.

3. Crowds would flock to marvel at the attraction which would offset any big costs.

4. As with Despicable Me, Universal actually OWNS the IP.

Cons:

1. Very expensive to construct

2. WETA Digital, who would need to create the 360 3d video for the ride, are currently working on The Hobbit films and then Avatar 2, which are both full-time jobs, for such a small company. I doubt they will create a theme park attraction in their spare time during this phase. WETA are currently at full capacity until at least the end of 2014 (depending when Avatar 2 is released).

3. Would Universal want the ride to be exclusive to USH?

In the far future, I am also hoping for Avatar and Hobbit themed attractions.

Well.....I don't think there is a law saying that they have to be identical rides to have the same theme. I could be wrong here but the clues just seem to fit this well, then again I am sure they could fit other things too.

I could see them keeping most of the building the same as well as just changing the cars like they did with BTTF into Simpsons. Possibly making it 3D.

Hopefully more clues surface soon. Pretty excited to find out what it will be.

I'm not convinced of the popularity of a Kong attraction. The old one did not seem to draw the crowds. Every time we were at USF, the lines were nonexistant for Kong.

I do think that the Transformers ride will go in when Universal rethemes Marvel Island and that won't be for a while.

I wouldn't be surprised if the kiddie area at USF was torn apart and had a Madagascar Crate Aventure put in but I don't think that will be part of this announcement. It would be cool though!

I just think it will be Despicable Me replacing Jimmy Neutron and a Spiderman rework.

I think everyone, even though the hints might not look like they're suggesting it right now, could be a How to Train Your Dragon ride. Madagascar could make sense though as a 3rd movie is in the works.

As for the overhaul to another attractions...I think many are forgetting that (as sad for me as it is to say it) T2:3D was announced as an attraction on the possible cutting board for USF. I don't know how realistic it would be to assumer that but we'll see. Also, E.T. could use some new animatronics as could Jurassic Park. It should be interesting. As for Disaster being rethemed, don't count on it...every time I go it is one of the more popular attractions at the Studios.

I totally forgot about T2:3D! Wasn't Universal Creative talking with James Cameron about making an Avatar show experince? With Avatar being such a big name and with a 2nd film in the works, this could be a great time for an Avatar show to take over T2:3D. However, I don't think this is what the announcement is for. It has been clearly stated by Universal that this announcement will have two parts. 1) Announce what will replace Jimmy. 2) Announce what ride is getting a tech overhaul. So, we are going to be getting a NEW ride in an old building along with an upgrade to an old ride.

I think it is going to be DM since a new movie is coming out and universal owns the IP for the ride to replace Jimmy. It has been the one rumored named for a long time, so it just makes sense.

However, I am still confused on the upgrade part of the announcement. There are so many rides that I would like to see get an upgrade.

1) Spiderman! New projections would make this ride even better. Plus, it would allow them some time to add or fix some new special effects. However, as mentioned before, they would have to deal with Disney to do anything major to this ride, and with the success of HP, I don't think Disney is in the mood to help Universal out any more.

2) MIB! I would love to get new cars for this ride that function better and look nicer. The cars are looking really run down. I would also like to see more special effects added to the ride.

3) Hulk! Another long rumored upgrade for Hulk is new cars that have lights and sound. With Universal currently (or just finished) repainting Hulk, now would be a great time to add in some new cars that would not require much down time. As long as nothing changes to the track itself, they should be able to run the old cars during the day and test the new cars at night. This would allow them to upgrade the ride with little to no downtime.

4) ET needs some TLC, but I don't think Universal will touch it. I have a big feeling that ET is on his way out soon. I think Universal is waiting to see the reaction for the Madagascar ride at USS. If succesful, they have a nice big building just waiting for a new family friendly ride. Plus, they should have all the issues worked out with the ride that has prevented it from opening for so long.

5) Jurrasic Park needs some love. Lots of the effects were not working the last time we rode. I would also like to see them replace the "box" with the car from USH. The car is a MUCH better effect than the "box" that normally never works.

I can't wait for the 19th to get here so they can announce this stuff already!

Can someone explain to me what the 'box' is please? I have a feeling I'm being pretty dim right now... :rolleyes1

I can't wait for the announcement! :cutie:

I rly hope they don't touch T2. One of my favorite things there and I can't think of a single thing that I would enjoy in its place. Even though Avatar was a semi decent movie.......I don't think it would be as entertaining as I find T2 to be. The theme music also doesn't even compare.

I love the T2 theme music!

Will be a super sad day when it goes.

I don't think you'll ever see any improvements to anything in Marvel Super Hero Island. Here's why...The way I understand the Disney/Marvel contract, Universal can keep what they currently have as long as the attractions are maintained. Any improvements/updates will ultimately have to have Disney's approval and I don't think Disney would agree to a major update to Spiderman. They would love to take the major characters away from Universal but can't...per the contract.

Considering a projector system upgrade is not an "improvement/update" as far as the ride experience or guest experience is concerned, I'm not sure it would be something that would really need to go thru Disney.

The film would still be the same, so it is more akin to swapping out an old worn out film projector with another projector (film or digital) than it is an actual update of the ride.

Of course, this is just my laymen's opinion. Lawyers never seem to think about things in such simple common sense kinda terms so I could be wrong here.

I think you have some great ideas but I disagree with ET. I don't think US would want to upset Steven Spielberg even further! If any of Spielberg's inspired attractions are going to be removed first, I would assume it to be Jaws which I think is seasonal anyway (unless that has changed in past couple of years again). ET is the closest thing UO has to a 'classic' attraction that in years to come could be seen as the IASW of Universal. But perhaps they will remove ET, but I think there are other attractions to remove first.

I'd love to see Twister removed, I think it is a huge waste of space and generally is an attraction we go to if there is a thunderstorm or to escape the Florida heat.

Personally I don't think it would be a good move to bring Kong to the parks. You need to keep the parks different across the world! ie, USS has Madagascar, UH has Transformers (though likely this WILL come to UO, but due to Spidey's Marvel fiasco) and Kong. I know attractions are introduced to parks that are tried and tested and clearly successful, but I just want more variety! Surely this would encourage more visits to the other parks, rather than just one single. Though I know this isn't how theme parks work, good existing attraction + more $$ = less time and effort in designing a new attraction.

I also think that it is going to be a Despicable Me type simulator ride with a few added elements and an upgrade to Spiderman's technology. The confusion is just to create a hype for the followers like us - a fantastic move by Universal creative!

I'm just conveying the way I understand the contract. You may not think a projector system upgrade would/should be considered a true upgrade but Disney may not see it that way. Who knows what will happen.

I agree. If they were just replacing the projection systems with the SAME system, Disney would not have a say in it becuase it is keeping the ride the same. However, UPDATING the system with new projections will mean the ride experince has been enhanced. From my little understanding of the contract, Universal can do anything to Marvel island (and the rides) as long as it is keeping everything the same. So, repainting Hulk was fine and didn't required Disney's input becuase it was restoring the ride back to its former self. However, and this goes against my last post in this thread of things I would like to see, Universal could not changed the cars on Hulk to the long rumored light/sounds cars becuase that would IMPROVE the ride.

At this point and time, I do not think Disney wants to allow Universal to do anything if they can help it. A LOT of people have started posting here about how they are going to spend a night or two at Universal and cut a few days away from Disney JUST to see HP. HP has hurt disney, and I for one am happy. Team Disney Orlando has gone to long without adding anything major into the parks. Sure they are working on a total overhual of Fantasy Land right now, but that is not going to draw people away from HP. If Disney wants to bring the attention back on them, they need to come up with something major for Orlando, and fast becuase Universal is rumored to start work on Phase 2 of the HP experince soon! Disney has a lot of space and a lot of money to work with, so I hope we see something soon. I personally would love more roller coasters and for them to replace Fantasmic with World of Color. Instead all Disney seems to be doing right now is replacing queues with "interactive" queues that don't require a line. Doesn't Disney know that queues like the ones added to Space Mountain are a major waste of money? Nobody wants to stand around and play a poorly created video game to hold up the line! Sorry, my rant is over about my dislike for Disney right now :P

I'm just conveying the way I understand the contract. You may not think a projector system upgrade would/should be considered a true upgrade but Disney may not see it that way. Who knows what will happen.

Do you have links to those types of details in the contract? I can only find details that say that can't add new characters and info about merchandising.

Someone posted on here (a page or so back) that there were talks of an 'Avatar' ride? Is that true? I'd really like a ride based on 'Avatar'.

So many of Universal Orlando's rides new upgrades i wouldn't know where to start! 'Twister' just needs to go, most people haven't even seen the film to know it's actually based on a film. & i don't think they need to get rid of T2:3D, they could do so much with it! The Terminator franchise is still very popular.

I haven't even seen 'Despicable Me'. :rolleyes1

Despicable me if worth your time if you enjoy kid movies. I personally thought it was hilarious but my top movies of all time include Beauty and the Beast, Wall-E, UP, and the Toy Story Trilogy
