Universal Studios is packing up its six-shooters and closing its Wild Wild West Stunt Show after 12 years and 17,000 performances.

A replacement for the live attraction, which featured a cast of rough-and-tumble characters in a 19th century setting, has not been decided.

"We have a couple of terrific ideas," but a final decision has not been made, Universal spokesman Jim Canfield said.

The show's 10 contract performers and six staff members will be given the opportunity to audition and apply for other jobs at the parks, Canfield said.

Universal also plans to close the Eighth Voyage of Sinbad at Islands of Adventure during the month of October to make way for Halloween Horror Nights, Canfield said. The Sinbad show will return in November.

So when is the show closing? I've got to videotape it before its final run. :(

I won't mind seeing a new show in there. But I hope it doesn't stay empty for long.

The article did not give a specific date. The above article is the full text from the paper.

Doesn't this....stink!!! I had hoped to see this is September when we go. If anyone has any idea when it might close, please post the date...thanks.

I heard from some sources that the last day was Sept. 1st.

If you want to see the show continue, here is the VP of Entertainment's address:

Skip Sherman
c/o Universal Orlando
1000 Universal Studios Plaza
Orlando Florida 32819

September 1 is indeed the date of the final performance, and the "discontinued" characters walk the parks for the last time on September 5.

So what is taking this show's place? I hope they put something in there.

Well, I'd be glad to have a new show come to Universal in place of the Wild Wild Wild West Stunt Show. It's been around for so long. Just imagine what they could come up with now!! :) I look forward in seeing what Universal plans to do. I was never a big fan of the show, but I'd feel bad for those who love it :(

I'm glad I got to see it this summer for the first time. Sorry to see it go. I suppose these shows have to leave eventually to spark people's interest in returning to see something new every so often.

Now I feel realllly guilty for always skipping it (though admittedly, the showtimes were always a little hinky when I was there).

I thought we'd catch it when we were there on Sept. 11th - 15th. Guess it's not going to happen.

I skip earthquake all the time too - can they cancel that for me?

Maybe they can just cancel the first two parts of Earthquake:p

I, too, won't be disappointed to see the show go. I've seen the show a couple of times in the past 10 years and that's enough.

Well, what will Michael (Robinrs' DS) do then? He always volunteers for the weather grip. He stands beside the podium and jumps up and down with his arm raised when the director asks for a weather grip volunteer.

Actually, when Universal Express let guests in at 7 am, Earthquake actually skipped the first two rooms and went directly to the ride. That was the best part. Watching the pre-show is good the first few times, but you just want to skip it after a while.

Hey, if there was a way to bypass the preshow on a regular basis, I say let Earthquake rumble forever. I guess I know a bit too much about how stuff is really done to be impressed by chroma-key effects...

Or maybe Earthquake was just a bad, bad movie.

The problem with the Earthquake movie is that it took an hour to start before the Earthquake happened. It was an hour of getting to know the people. I fast-forwarded over part of the first hour. Things were more interesting when the carnage happened. :)
