If I purchase regular Universal park tickets, can they be upgraded to APs? If yes and I get the tickets at a discount, do I pay the difference between what I paid and the cost of the AP or do I pay the difference between the gate price and the cost of the AP?

If I buy FOTL tickets, can those be upgraded to APs?

Can tickets that are part of the Go LA Card be upgraded to either APs or FOTL tickets?

I'm just trying to find out my options before deciding which tickets to buy. Thank you!

Well I can't answer any of your questions....we got AP's at Costco by DL last summer for cheap. I can't remember exact price but it was very close to the 1 day ticket. Worth it for the discounts and we'll go another day or two this Aug.

I just thought I'd share what I found out since I decided to call to get the scoop. Hopefully their phone people are more accurate than Disney's and I can count on what the guy told me.

I was told that you can upgrade from a FOTL pass to an annual pass for $15. This AP will have blackout dates. The guy told me that there would be less blackout days than the value AP (a few blackout dates over Christmas) but even if the blackout dates are the typical value AP dates, there aren't a heck of a lot of them. For that price, I'm going to upgrade the people who live in LA. Between the dining and shopping discount, we'll likely more than make up the $30 (only 2 in our party live in LA).

He did give me another option. He said I could buy the value AP that's currently on special (value AP for 1 day ticket price of $85) and at the park I could pay the difference between the AP price and the FOTL price to get the FOTL access for the day so basically the total for the AP is the price of the FOTL pass but we'd end up with APs. This way is actually $15 cheaper than the other but there's no guarantee that they won't sell out of FOTL passes that day as they are limited. To me it's worth the extra $15 to be sure we get them. I've got an autistic child so I can't afford to risk long waits plus we can only stay until lunch because that's all she can cope with and we'll be there during peak period so I consider the FOTL pass pretty important.
