Okay, I haven't been to Universal Studios since I was a kid. I don't remember it being that exciting. My son is turning 8 in December and really wants to go (I also have a 10 yo daughter). Can someone please tell me if it is worth the money? I have tried and tried to talk him into Disneyland or CA. Adventure, but he isn't having it. He wants Universal Studios or Magic Mountain and I think there are too many rides he can't ride at MM. Someone help!!!

Make your son happy and take him to Universal. He only
turns 8 once. If he decides he doesn't like it and you feel
it's not worth it, your chouce for next year will be easier.

I think it would be worth the money. There are some fun rides and it is a cool experience. I always like seeing some of the sets from movies and T.V. shows. When I was a kid I really liked it. I think the kids will have fun. I can't remember if it was December or January, but they have the buy one day and get a year pass. That might be January. Hope this helps a little.

To make your son happy on his birthday?

I think so.

Many things would make my son happy... including going somewhere else. That is why I was trying to figure out if Universal was worth it since I have not been there since I was a kid.

He also wants a laptop and a pony.....

Seems to me if you can afford a pony and that would make
him happy, a pony would be a great gift. And if he's ready
to use a laptop and you can afford it then I bet that would
be worth it.

But I get the impression that neither of those gifts is really
an option so it seems a trip to Universal would be well worth
it. It's changed a lot since the last time you were there so
you, too, might find a trip there worth it.

Do you have room for a pony?

My kids did not like Universal. The rides are more motion rides with screens in front of them. They do have the water ride like the dino ride. It is an ok park but my kids about the same ages as yours were bored and did not like most of the rides. MM has tons of roller coasters. Most have 48" height requirement. I love that park but my kids don't. :) Legoland is another local park and it is geared to the smaller kids. An 8 year old might like it but it is a small park you can get through in 3/4 of a day as long as it is not busy. Disney and CA Advent has enough to entertain the whole family.

I think that Universal is a great idea. Your son will get to "Ride the Movies".

The best thing to do in order to prepare for this would be to have your kids watch some of the movies on which the rides are based, like The Mummy and Jurassic Park. Get them excited for the park!

My family took me to Universal when I was young, and I loved it. My mom just told me to remember that everything is "fake". Jaws is not a real shark. The Mummy won't really steal your soul. That t-rex is really just a mechanical robot.

My 2 youngest are 6 and 9 and they really like Universal. Of course we have only been to the one in Orlando but we are planning to go to the one in CA this summer.

I have a friend that lives in CA and when I asked her about SFMM she said they tend to have gang problems there. That was her take on in FWIW.

My twin son were 9 when we went and they loved it. It was worth it to us. The park had a good vibe and they really enjoyed the Simpson Ride and getting to talk to Donkey from Shrek. The Jurassic Ride was a hoot. The tours were also enjoyed by all of us. Last time we didn't have time for them to get wet in the "water fountain area". Bring a change of clothes! Loved Universal and planning on going again!

What is worth it to some is not to others. We love USH and would not miss it. There are 6 of us and do VIP, we do not regret spending the bucks since we are movie freaks and love the horror films(old).

my kids are 8 and 10 and they love Universal, they have been to the one in Florida as well and we are going back to the LA one this year. Although there are many rides they can't go on like the Mummy there is still plenty to entertain them for one day.

My 8 year old son loves Universal Orlando. His favorite rides are Simpson's and Jurassic Park. I would say the money was worth it for us because he loved it so much.
