Universal Studios with 10, 8 and 4 year old kids ......

We're going in August - DL for 3 days and a one-day trip to Universal Studios. Our group will be 4 adults and 3 kids - 10, 8 and 4.

My 10-year-old does NOT like scary rides, which basically means she likes to do all the kiddie rides at DL, and didn't want to do Snow White's Scary Adventure in WDW because it had the word "Scary" in the ride name ....... [sigh]. The 8-yr old is pretty much a thrill-seeker, and the 4-yr-old is a pipsqueak - just a little munchkin of a kid! Will there be enough rides for these kids to do at Universal between height restrictions and "scariness" levels?

Can you do kid swaps at Universal like you can at DL? Thanks!

If your kids are too small or unwilling to go on a particular ride you want to experience, you can take advantage of our "child swap" program. Each ride and attraction has a child swap area where one member of your party can wait with the little ones while the rest of your party rides. Then as soon as they get off the ride, they can swap places and stay with the kids while the adults who sat out get their opportunity to enjoy the ride.

As for thrill rides, there is only two. Jurassic Park and the Mummy. They're not particularly scary, except for the beginning of the Mummy. If the ten year old does not like Zombie/Mummy creatures staring and reaching for him, I'd tell him to skip it. On Jurassic Park the scares are very minor. Except for a T. Rex attack with some Raptors thrown in, and a few dark scenes, it's pretty peaceful and tranquil. (Until the 85 foot drop.) These two and the Simpsons ride are the only ones who have height restrictions.

The backlot tour cannot be missed, and will be enjoyed by all. Not a scary section in sight.

The Simpsons Ride is enjoyable for all ages unless you have a few health problems.

There's the two 3-D shows as well, and a few stage shows.

And finally, the maze. Universal's House of Horrors. It's basically a Halloween maze they have all year long. Very creepy and jump scares always get me. NOT suggested for the ten year old who doesn't like that sort of thing. And any younger kids, It might be a bad idea. It's really up to your party however.

Universal in Hollywood is fun for a few hours. It's a good break from the family fun of Disney and worth seeing at least once, I think.
