So, we are coming down end of 7/16 in to 8/16, and were thinking about doing one day away from Disney Parks as a change up.

I have never been to Lego land, but from everything I read it is geared more towards younger kids (which means the 10 year old may be bored.

The reverse of that is that Universal is geared more towards older kids (which means the 4 year old may not get to ride anything.

The 7 year old will like both.

Do I have a better shot of the 10 year old having some fun at LEGOLAND, or the 4 year old having some fun at Universal.

I have a 10 year old son (who loves legos) and an 8 year old daughter. They both LOVE thrill rides and LOVE Universal Studios. We took them to LEGOLAND for the 1st time in June and they had a good time. They have several roller coasters (they don't compare to Hulk and Dragon Challenge) but they were thrilling enough, even for the 10 year old. Plus they have a lot more for your 4 yr old.
I will add that I would never pay full price for Lego Land. We had military discounts and only paid $42 per person to get in which made it worth it. I don't know if I would have been so happy about it if I had paid full price.
Back to Universal, we LOVE it! We actually bought the kids annual passes for Christmas for the 1st time! The only downfall for your family is the 4 yr old will not have as much to do.
Hope this helps.

I really enjoy both parks, but love Universal so much more. However, taking your kids ages into consideration, I would definitely opt for Legoland at this time in your situation as there will be a lot more for your 10 year old to do at Lego land than for your 4 year old to do at Universal. Plus Legoland is definitely worth a visit and your kids are at the perfect age to appreciate it. It won't be a park you will want to visit in a few years whereas you and your kids have a lifetime to enjoy universal when they are older.

Last year I took my kids to Universal/IOA for 7 days. They were 4,6, and 8 at the time. They had a great time and there was a lot for us to do as a family and even when we couldn't ride everything, the child swap was awesome! This year when we go down we thought we might do a day or two at Legoland (because all of my kids love legos) and then do 4 or 5 days at Universal.

Hi! We've been taking our kids to Universal since the eldest was 3 years old and the middle child was 2 months old. They were 12, 9, and 6 on our most recent trip. And 10, 7, and 4 on the trip to Universal before that! We've gone to Legoland for one day every year for the past 3 years as well, including this year - and starting with the 10, 7,and 4 trip.

Universal is absolutely amazing. Legoland is a lot of fun too - but I don't think it's worth close to the regular ticket price. (We use the homeschool discount with makes it worth it). On our first two trips to Legoland, we were there from open to close and could have easily spent more time there. However, this last time, we were ready to leave an hour before close. My kids still enjoyed it - even the 12 year old - but it's not on the same scale as Universal.

My advice is that if your eldest is into Legos at all, do Legoland. I do think Universal is more amazing but Legoland is a good park and you may be limited in the number of years that it will work for your family. If you think your eldest won't be into Legoland at all, then do Universal. We did 6 days in the Universal parks when they were 10, 7, and 4. (And again, returning today, and they are now 12, 9, and 6). My youngest has sensory issues which limit rides in many places. He refused to the rides at Legoland at 4, but did MUCH better at 5. At 6, it worked great. As for Universal, he refused rides at Universal at 4. (And refused most of Disney rides at 5 until our trip was almost over). At 6, he did better but many were still too scary or challenging for his sensory sensitivities. So - it meant doing things like letting him ride Woody Woodpecker 10 times in a row to make up for his waiting. He really liked the ball place by Curious George too and the Flight of the Hippogriff. There are several play areas too he liked - like the Jurrassic park play area and the play area next to Woody Woodpecker. (I think it might be Fieval's playland). He agreed to do MIB, but only with his eyes closed so he wouldn't see the aliens. He did this 4 times during our 6 day trip. If my youngest hadn't been a sensory-quirked child, he would have done a lot more. (My eldest was doing Spiderman at 3. My middle child did get freaked out on Simpsons at 3 but did well when she did it again a couple years later. My 6 year old isn't ready to try Spiderman and once was enough for him for Simpsons).
