Universal Studios Singapore® shaping up

It's exciting times for theme park enthusiasts. Resorts World at Sentosa (RWS) announced in October that it will be home to the world's first mega-theme park attraction designed after the global blockbuster movie Transformers. The attraction opening in 2011 will impress with a fusion of special effects, stunning robotics and an innovative ride system. Transformers broke box-office records in many countries and boasts a cast of some of the best-known toy and movie characters in the world.

On-site, Universal Studios Singapore® is taking shape with the erection of the 7-storey steel frame for The Revenge of the Mummy. The thrilling indoor dark ride with a replica facade of ancient Egypt is an all-time favourite with theme-park goers.

I well be going to take up dated picture of Universal Studios Singapore next week to post

Resorts World at Sentosa on-track to open in early 2010

With a sales network that spans 18 cities across Asia, including two in Vietnam (Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City), Singapore’s only island integrated resort, Resorts World at Sentosa, is tapping on the Asian leisure and business travel segment to weather the potential travel slump following the world economic crunch. At this year’s ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) in Hanoi, Resorts World’s strong support and participation also signifies the 49-hectare family destination’s confidence in ASEAN markets as a key to riding out the current climate. By forging ahead for an early 2010 soft opening, Resorts World is also contributing towards the attractiveness of Southeast Asia as a compelling destination for visitors from all over the world.

In fact, as one of the most exciting and unprecedented one-stop family resort destinations to emerge in this part of the world, guests can look forward to experiencing Southeast Asia’s first and only Universal Studios theme park, four hotels, its casino, as well as the Resort’s bustling thoroughfare of retail and restaurants, FestiveWalk.

In addition, the S$6-billion family destination will continue to expand its international sales network to tap emerging and regional markets, such as China, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam.

Besides China and India, the rest of Asia forms an important and immediate hinterland for the Resort which expects international visitors to make up 60 per cent of its 15-million visitorship in its first year of full operations.

Located on Sentosa island and when fully completed, Resorts World will boast Universal Studios Singapore; the world’s largest oceanarium, Marine Life Park; a world class maritime museum, a water theme park, a luxury wellness spa, accommodation options spanning six hotels and 1,800 rooms, world-class entertainment and an unparalleled array of dining and shopping outlets. Ms Shirly Chen, Deputy Vice President of Sales, Resorts World at Sentosa said: “While uncertainty looms over the state of the economy in the short term, we have confidence in the robustness of Singapore’s tourism sector in the mid to long term.”

“In fact, together with the cooperation of ASEAN, Resorts World will be contributing by giving overseas families a compelling reason to visit Singapore and Asia, with its unique offerings that include the region’s first Universal Studios theme park,” Ms Chen added.

Just a short 20-minute ride away from Changi International Airport, Resorts World is also neighbour to attractions that range from two championship golf courses at the Sentosa Golf Club, Singapore largest shopping mall, VivoCity and Singapore’s largest nightspot, St James Power Station. The Resort is adjacent to the HarbourFront Cruise Terminal. At this year’s ATF, Resorts World at Sentosa (booth D153/154) hopes to breathe an air of optimism about its leisure offerings by creating awareness amongst sellers about its attractions and entertainment offerings. Pricing for Universal Studios Singapore and the Resort’s hotel rates will be launched later this year.

Universal Studios Singapore

Revenge of the Mummy – The Ride
This may look like a warehouse from afar. But when complete, the prominent building at Universal Studios Singapore will house heaps of fun and thrills. The seven-storey Revenge of the Mummy attraction is being fitted out with an indoor roller coaster, themed after Hollywood's phenomenally popular "Mummy" movies. Bookmark this page as the façade of the Revenge of the Mummy, which harks back to the glory days of Ancient Egypt, gets fitted soon. We'll bring you exclusive pictures as the huge statues and columns start going up. Shhh... that's all we can say for now!

WaterWorld Amphitheatre
The only sounds that echo around the 3,500 seat WaterWorld amphitheatre now are those from construction tools such as jack hammers, drills and power saws. Book a seat in show centre when the WaterWorld stunt and special effects spectacular starts early next year. The 7-metre deep pool – one of the deepest in Singapore – will be the performance area for the stunt professionals. The WaterWorld show is a hit at Universal Studios theme parks worldwide, with some 75 per cent of all Universal Studios visitors making time for it. Brace yourself for packed stands when the show begins. Fire! Explosion! Action!
