We are planning on going to universal studios on sept 27, the prices for front of the line are $139, ae they needed that day? Or is there a cheaper site to buy them from? Or if anyone knows a crowd predictor site I can check that would be helpful also. Thanks!!

absolutely not on a non-holiday weekday in Fall

I'm almost positive the answer is no

never heard of a "predictor" site for USH, but you could look at http://www.isitpacked.com/live-crowd-trackers/universal-studios-hollywood/ just before your visit

FOTL pass definitely isn't necessary if you get there at rope-drop and head straight to the bottom area with Transformers, etc. Could always choose to get one later in the day if the lines get long and you want to re-ride rides.

As for cheaper tickets, I don't know where you live, but Costcos around me (SF Bay Area) sell 2-day passes for about $70.
