I am looking for a place to stay while visiting Universal and other Hollywood/LA attractions. Money is an issue, but I'd like something clean and safe. There would be 2 adults traveling.

I stayed somewhere in West Hollywood on Sunset next to the House Of Blues in 1998, but I cannot remember what hotel chain that was...

Thanks!
Kristi

We stayed at the Hilton at Universal Studios in 1998, and the hotel and location were great. It won't be inexpensive, though at the time we had an American Airlines "stay one night, get the next night free" deal. There's also a Sheraton at Universal. The Unofficial Guide rates the Hilton #1 and the Sheraton #2 for quality.

Was it the Best Western Sunset Plaza, Kristi?
Disney offers packages where you can combine a stay in Disneyland with a stay there. :)

My DW and I had our wedding reception there back in 1997. It's not cheap but I think it's worth spending the extra money for it's location, the quality of the hotel, and the food there. If you're into seafood, their seafood buffet on Thursday-Sunday evenings is one of the best around. I know that you mentioned that money is an issue but this is something for you to at least consider...

We stayed at the Hollywood Celebrity when we went. It was right behind the Chinese theater and the Kodak theater. I think I paid $100/night for a 2 queen room and $110 for a king suite. It was very clean, had free internet access and a computer in the lobby to use.

I felt safe in the area, since there were people around at all times during the night. I would stay there again if I were to go back to Hollywood
