I have never been to Universal before and we are going to be going a cruise in July out of Long Beach. We are thinking of going a couple days ahead of time and stopping at Univesal? Is it possible to do Universal in one day in July? 2 adults and a 16 and 12 year old? Thanks

I think Universal Studios can easily be done in one day, even in July. To me it's more like a 3/4 day event, if you start when it opens. Afterwards you can enjoy a meal in CityWalk & walk around there, or on your way back to Long Beach you can stop in Hollywood & check out Graumann's Chinese Theater at the Kodak Center.

What's it like in the off season? I am toying with going on a Thurs or Fri in April 29 or 30, after spring breaks are over. Is it overkill to get a front of the line pass or is it pretty dead off season? I am heading to DL with DS11 but wanted something different. We did Knotts last time

I personally would not pay the extra for the front of the line pass. I have been to US in Apr, May, June, Aug and Sept and have never seen a need for front of the line pass. Just my $.02.

We too are going in July - we are considering going on a Saturday as we are blocked out of Disney on that day (have Deluxe AP's). Is this a mad idea? We are thinking that the roads may be a little quieter through LA on a weekend or would you choose a different day and go to the beach or something on our 'block out' day - or possibly stick with Saturday and pay for FOL passes? We have been a little spoiled at US Orlando as we have always stayed on-site and enjoyed FOL for free.

Generally Universal Hollywood can easily be done in a single day. However, this is not true on a busy holiday or weekend. We were there on Valentines day this year and it was packed. Lines for all attractions were over an hour each. All other trips we've been have seen 5-20 minute lines.
