Hi, I will be in UO for 1 day with two children, 5 & 7. They are not too adventurous (let's just say that after the pre-show part of the Haunted House in Disney they had to let us out an exit because my kids were not happy!) and I don't like jerky, fast, spinny rides. That was a year ago but I still want to take it slow this time around. Are any of these 4 shows/rides very scary, etc. for a 5 & 7 y.o.?

Jimmy Neutron,Shrek 4-D, ET,Terminator 2-3D

Thanks!

Jimmy Nuetron doesnt spin you, but it jerks you a bit.
Shrek is a 3D movie, the seats move.
ET is a dark ride.
Terminator is a live show/3D movie with guns.

MIB spins around a bit, no more than buzz lightyear, and its more fun.
JAWS is a dark water ride where a shark jumps out of the water.
Earthquake is an effects show that bounces you around.
Nothing is "scary". Some stuff is in the dark....but thats not bad.

We just got back and my son and I both have to take it easy for health reasons. DO NOT do Storm force- the teacups ride- it is much worse than disney's- it really got to my son. We did Jimmy Neuton fine and Shrek too. He had no problems with Jaws. Earthquake scared him and Twister was out of the question because of the noise level. He loved the Barney show and loved E.T.

Storm force is NOT worse than the teacups, teacups make me sooooooo sick, and storm doesnt....
Twister has thunder lightning and fire. Its good, but loud, and in the dark.

Two questions: If I remember correctly, Jaws is just a 'scary' ride right? No twists or turns or motion issues? And, what about ET, darkness is ok but are there any motion sickness/speed issues? Thanks so much.

ET is no worse then Peter Pan.

And what kid doesn't love hearing ET say their names at the end?

In Jaws you are riding in a boat about the same size as Jungle Cruise.

Terminator is a combination live action/effects show type thing. Can be scary with the menacing robots and all. Great show though.

Other's comments on Jimmy are right on. Damo brought up the Jungle Cruise, a good analogy really. If you closed your eyes on Jaws, it would be about the same ride feeling as Jungle Cruise, pretty tame. (Well, a few bangs and effects but they all have that.) Now if they have a fear of sharks and/or water then you may have a problem.

I've seen a few kids freaked out by Shrek. It just depends how they'll react to being poked and squirted etc in the dark. If they know the characters at all I imagine they'll love it. Bug's Life in Disney has the same affect on some kids.

Twister to me is like standing on your porch when a storm blows in. You get a little misty rain, a lot of wind and some noise when the wind blows over your wheel barrow. In the show you watch a few things move around and see the twister and it's over. I've seen more kids bored in here than scared, but others like it and love the noise and effects right there in front of them.

Men in Black can spin you a bit but it's not continuous just here and there to turn you to face things. If the kids get into the scoring part they will like it. Tell them how to shoot, aim and score higher points.

I haven't done ET or Earthquake so I can't comment on them.

Thanks so much, from these comments I was able to add some rides that I didn't think we would like at first.

I tend to disagree with the bolded statement. If anything, the Bug's Life at AK is MUCH scarier than Shrek. I've heard that there as many as 20-30 run-outs per DAY, if not more, and hundreds of children come out crying from ITTBAB.

Shrek = FUN. :)
ITTBAB = :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

IMO.

Well there's definately a lot more screaming from the audience at Bug's Life so I guess what you say is probably true. I hear it said a lot of kids leave but I haven't personally seen the mass exodus. Then again I'm usually watching the show and not the kids so could have never noticed it.

Q as to IOA Dudley - that drop scares the heck outta me (in a good way:thumbsup2 ). One of the few rides i get substantial airtime. Unnerves me to see my skinny kid go somewhat airborne.

What's up with the test of lap bars that was mentioned in screamscape? Anyone actually see these yet?

I think they should be appearing any day now, if not already. I know they starting adding them to the replacement logs but just haven't added them back into the ride yet. That ride unnerves me too! Once the lap bars are in I will ride it again.:scared:

mouse,

Please pass on T2 if you'd like to avoid ruining the day for your kids. It's a great show as others have said, but odds are it will scare the little ones if they had issues with pre-show Haunted Mansion...

Here's what I'd recommend as OK or maybes at each park based on your posts:

US
Shrek - maybe...our then 7-yo was a bit frightened in the beginning, but she toughed it out...it's not really a "happy Shrek" ride, but of course everything works out in the end

MIB - maybe...mild spins, some noise and dark but not totally dark...our DD kept her head down most of the ride

ET - OK...the remainder of Woody Woodpecker's Kid Zone is where you'll want to spend most of your time, except for the coaster (which isn't bad by the way)

Jimmy Neutron - maybe...will probably be more of an issue for you than the kids

Jaws - maybe...not so bad if everyone can handle the dark part

IOA
Popeye & Bluto's - OK...if you don't mind getting wet

Suess Landing - OK...all systems go for all rides

Pteranodon Flyers - OK...if everyone is good with heights, but it's honestly not worth the wait

I'd leave everything else for the future...you don't want to push the kids (and yourself) to the point of stress, fear or grumpiness (although that's bound to happen anyway!!). There are of course the shows, characters and other things to see and keep you all occupied without needing to focus so much on the rides.

Have fun!!

don't recall ever hearing anyone fall out - seems to be better than a remote possibility to me.

of course, that's part of what makes it so wickedly fun.;)

i'm such a chicken, just thinking about give me the willies lol; wonder if i volunteer to test the new log the end of the month:rotfl: they'll roll it on out.
