Universal Studios and a possible Hollywood Tour- Worth the Trip?

We are planning a possible trip up to LA on Tuesday July 16 (staying in San Diego). I was wondering if you guys thought it would be worth it for us to make the 2+ hour trip up to LA just to go to Universal Studios and possibly take the "Hollywood Behind the Scenes Tour" by Red Line, which is included in our San Diego Go pass.
Is Universal really worth the trip? How about the tour, has anybody been on it?

I'm going up to Universal from DL on next Wednesday via city transportation. I think it is worth it just for the backlot tour alone. I'm going to enjoy everything there since there are things at USH in comparison to what USF has.

I would certainly say yes, it's worth it for either/or the USH/Hollywood tour. But both together would certainly be worth your time and money.

Just make sure you leave early morning on the day and plan your day well to get the most out of it.
