Hi my wife and i are going to Universal and IOA in april the last week and are wondering a few things.
One what are the crowds like the last week of april first week of may?
2. I am 6'1 and 300 pounds i want to make sure i will be able to get on the rides. I know that people say the rides at disney are taliored for families of all sizes and shapes. BUt i have not read anything about universal. I am not going to ride the the hulk or dualing dragons but do want to ride jaws. back to the future. spiderman, jurrasic park and t2 for sure.
I am doing my best to lose some of my weight before we go but if i dont will i be able to ride these rides?
Thanks

the first week of May is better than the last week of April. T2 is in a theater, jaws has no restraints. nor does BTTF, but sit in front if you're prone to motion sickness. spiderman has a little lap bar, but you'll be fine. same with jurassic park. if you end up wanting to ride the Hulk or DD, there are seats set aside for larger people. Universal is just as friendly as WDW when it comes to as you stated - 'families of all shapes and sizes'

DH has ridden every ride in UO and IOA and he has no problems. He is 6' 3" and 278. He does have to ride in the special seats on the roller coasters.

why is the first week of may better then the last week of April?

The crowds are less that week in May. In April you are still dealing with Spring Break.

Many folks don't know, but in Shrek, the wheelchair aisle in the middle many of the seats have arms that lift up. They will be the ones right near the wheelchair stations. That may help some larger guests.

Didn't Jaws close for good?
No, it opened Feb 4th and is open until at least the end of the summer. There was an article about it in one of the newspapers from down there in Fla. Not sure which one, just read it online this morning. That's good news for me as well, I'll be there the first week of May. :cool1:

Before I lost weight the only ride I found really uncomfortable at US was ET. All the others were great.

the last time that I went to UNiversal which was about 4 years ago, I weighed about 290 and I could ride on everything but it was really, really tight for a couple of them. You have to get in a special line which has the extenders for the seat belts. They are clearly labled. The dueling dragons was a really, really tight fit and The Hulk was tight. I did make it on all of them but those 2 were really cutting it close. I had gastric bypass surgery a couple years ago and now i am 180 so I look forward to riding everything with ease. Good luck!

That is good to know. I am overweight and also have a large chest. I don't think they had special seats the last time we went to US...I did ride everything but had to be helped into the seats by ride operators and ended up being very embarrased.

they are rows three and six for the rollar coasters. Hulk, and Dueling Dragons could apply to other rides as well. Some of the seats are a little wider and others have extended restraints.

There are bench seats at ET. You get the handlebars to pull down but no bike seat. It was a bench across the back row for 4 people to sit on. You may have to wait to get that car, but it exists.

I don't know about weight but I do think the last week of April will be light crowd wise. Most spring breaks are over by then and everyone will be back in school starting monday April 24 (? don't have a calendar in front of me). We will be there on Wed 26th, and we were able to get the room we wanted and also made dinner reservations at Tchop Tchop for the time/date we wanted. It is not going to be a mob scene. There may be a few stragglers but for the most part I am anticipating an emptier park.

I am spending a week in Los Angeles, and I've been doing some research, and wanted to get some feedback.

I'm a pretty big guy (bigger than most of the searches I've found) - 6'5 - 400 - and although I don't have to be able to ride EVERY ride, does anyone with experience think that I could make a day out of Universal Studios with my wife on "fat friendly" rides? I've also seen those rides that people say are tight - but does anyone know any ones specifically that will be "safe" for someone of my size? I suppose as a reference, I wear a 58/34 pant and a 4XL-Tall shirt. I am fairly young (28) so energy level and mobility is not too horrible (yet)

Thank you for having a forum like this that google searchers trying to find info can be alive with - and I will definitely return after I've gone to reaffirm what I've been told and give any other feedback.

Also, as a side question, we are staying in Thousand Oaks - I don't think our hotel is appropriate enough to go to Disneyland (which I've read is much more fat friendly) on this trip (seems like it is 75 minutes, and with weekday traffic, probably not 75 minutes - so by the time I got there, I'd imagine we'd have 3-4 hours and have to leave) - so does anyone know any other "fat friendly" fun venues up on the north side of the greater LA area?

Most of the info on this site is for Universal Orlando. There are no rollercoasters at Universal Hollywood and many of the other rides at the Orlando park are not at the Hollywood park.

The rollercoasters have always had some special seats.

There are test seats outside the entrances of Hulk and Dueling Dragons to try out. If you fit in those...you're good. ROTM also has test seats out front. They don't have any modified seats but if the restraint can't be pulled down to where they need it to be, they will direct you to the back row which offers more leg room.
