Can you just go and visit the universal resorts? Are there guards outside each resort entrance like a disney world resorts? I was wanting to check out these resorts for a future large family visit.

There's nothing stopping you, you can look at just about everything except getting inside an actual room.

You can take the water taxi or bus to the resorts and look around. They don't ask for keys or ID. Like rocketman said, you can't go into a room unless you want to do a resort tour.

The Universal hotels charge for parking (even for guests). If you're just going to look around you might walk or take the boat from City Walk.
